In addition to the recommendations already made, I've been very pleased with Stomp's BackUp MyPC. Unlike products like True Image and Ghost, you can do selective file/folder backups. Unlike the Windows Backup utility, writeable optical storage is supported. And unlike some of its competitors, it writes this optical storage at fastest-possible speed. Doesn't agressively compress WAV files though. See yesterday's entry at:
Thanks to all of you who've emailed me with this correction! I wasn't able to get any of the consoles in-house so was working off the manufacturers' documentation. Leave it to Sony to suggest that people buy hardware they really don't need! Actually, Sony PR was extremely unhelpful on this article; as soon as they heard I was doing a comparison piece, they quit returning my phone calls........
Clarification from he who caused all the ruckus;-)

I understand I'm a bit 'popular' on slashdot.org today;-) I'll say publicly what I've said privately to everyone who's written me so far; although I admit that I didn't explicitly state this, what I meant was reverse-engineering with intent to illegally re-use IP protected by copyright and/or patent. I even mention legal reverse engineering when I brought up Integrated Circuit Engineering....
It appears from some of the earlier-made postings I've just scanned that some of you figured this out already. I thank you for defending me. And for those who I confused with my less-than-exact wording, I apologize. Profusely. Now quit clogging my email inbox!;-)
I'll be publishing a print clarification of this point in an upcoming issue of EDN.

Not my preference, believe me. Standard EDN format required of all editors, for all articles

Pretty bad picture, isn't it?
