Have you looked at the Roku Labs PhotoBridge HD? The v2 firmware, still in beta (perpetually so, it seems) claims to support HD MPEG-2 TS stream playback. See the link to the beta firmware on the support page of their website
Perhaps my EDN Magazine cover story 'CAT5 Tracks: Audio Goes the Distance, Reliably and On Time' from earlier this year would provide some useful information. You can find it at www.edn.com/article/CA621641.html.
See here: http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/ Although I can't seem to get it to work. I don't think IMAP/SMTP support is (yet) enabled. Let me know if/when you succeed, please
Has anyone else noticed that Tools->Options->Advanced->Software Update->Check Now under Firefox v1.0.4 results in lots of 'encountered problems' messages for various extensions, messages that didn't exist under Firefox v1.0.3? Ideas why?

CherryOS Goes Open Source
·
· Score: 2, Informative
I'm a technical editor for EDN Magazine, and am scheduled to be in Maui on vacation in early May. While I'm there, I've scheduled (several weeks ago) an onsite interview with Maui X-Stream, the promoters of CherryOS. Yesterday morning I got an email from company president Jim Kartes clarifying Slashdot's earlier heads-up that the software had been pulled, and yesterday's CherryOS website revision; "Due to Overwhelming Demand, Cherry Open Source Project Launches 5.1.2005".
Here's what Jim says: "Brian. Here's the deal. We have decided to change CherryOS to an "open source code" product. We will do so May 1st because we need a few weeks to prepare for this. We will be charging only $14.95 for this to cover our cost of development, plus ongoing development as well as marketing costs. We are doing this because we want all to see that we have not lifted source code from other sources."
I suspect that the PearPC development team, and many of the rest of you, have lots of questions for the folks at Maui X-Stream. Please visit my blog posting at EDN's website and suggest general topics for discussion during my interview, along with specific questions that you want me to ask Jim and other company representatives I meet with. I'll report back to Slashdot after the meeting, both here and on my blog.
Within the past year, I've added a PowerBook and dual G5 PowerMac to my Windows notebook-and-desktop suite, but I'm still using Outlook 2K for Windows as my email client and PIM (therefore still running the Windows systems)....because there's been no clean way to get all of my email, contact, calendar and tasklist data into Entourage. The import tool seems to be what'll do the trick; my research indicates that the PST formats used by Outlook for Windows and Outlook for Mac 2001 are identical. And I'll still be able to sync with my Pocket PC via Missing Sync or Pocket Mac. Make sense?
Anyone else notice that the Front Side Bus frequency on the new 1.8 GHz G5 PowerMac is 600 MHz.....1/3 of the CPU's core frequency? On the single-CPU 1.6 GHz G5 PowerMac, it was 800 MHz (1/2 the core), as is the case with all the dual-proc versions. I assume this was done to maximize CPU and core logic chipset yields, but it'll clobber performance in apps that aren't cache-friendly. Comments?
Save yourself the $20; as long as you don't need to access email, etc from the phone itself, GPRS via phone-as-modem-to-laptop is free (unlimited) now with T-Mobile. Understandably they don't publicize this, but they use GPRS to download ringtones, etc to the phone so it's now 'unlocked' for everyone. I got T-Mobile standard phone service last week and can personally confirm that this is true.
In IE, I'm able to download up to 15 simultaneous files (either directly via Registry tweaks or through utilities such as IEtweak 2). How can I accomplis the same thing in Firefox 0.92? Thanks in advance for any assistance
For those of you who might already own Pentax-compatible flash units, optics, etc...don't forget about the *istD, which is now (finally) shipping. I've just obtained one and, aside from a few very minor glitches, am delighted with it. More info at Pentax's website.

Not yet, it doesn't. Spec's not yet finalized, therefore no players or media currently implement it.
This is code-named Sossaman. It's a Core Duo/Yonah variant (good eye!) with multi-processor support, along with virtualization support.
I'd very much appreciate one; thanks in advance!

Isn't this the same phone which was covered 1.5 years ago in Slashdot?

I thought this was fixed in a subsequent patch?

Free WAP is no more....right? But free GPRS is still in place

Buy a cheap Pocket PC (see www.techbargains.com). And put a program called CoolCalc on it (www.applian.com). Voila!
