Seriously, Horton plaza in San Diego has been exactly that sort of place since the 50's, according to my M-I-L and was certainly that way when I was a navy recruit in the 80's and still is today.
On any given day you can get the world is ending, floride in the Water, and during the 80's a guy giving shadow boxing lessons.
The old UN park in SF is the same way. Great place to sit and listen to the loonies.
No, because witness show that Zimmerman was returning to his car, he reported to the cops he lost him, when Martin engaged Zimmerman.
The fight occurs after that point, with Martin as the aggressor.
Zimmerman drew after he was pummeled and Zimmerman called for help according to multiple eyewitnesses.
You want this to be an open and shut case of some right wingnut with a gun killing some innocent helpless black kid. The media did no favors by showing a 13 year old Martin to make him look like a little kid.
Far more complex.
Black kid with a known attitude tweeting under nolimit_nigga and mugging gang poses on his profile. Big enough at 2 meters tall to be a threat and look older than he was. Zimmerman is Latino, a democrat, and was assaulted according to all eye witnesses before he shot Martin.
It was a tragedy for sure. Maybe Zimmerman deserves to go to jail.
But the biggest side effect will be that race baiters might finally proven they cannot be believed.
Maybe then we will get a fair society. Maybe then all the black kids shot by other black kids and the white kids shot by other white kids will be worth the life a black kid shot by a white guy.
The UK report is inaccurate on at least one forensic fact: there was a single shot fired. So either the witness is misquoted by the press, or is themselves in error.
Here in the US their would be an immediate uproar that it is unfair to minorities because they are underrepresented in IT and therefore their rights will be violated by the whites that can read the code base.
21st century technology solution? We can't get past the arguments to implement photo ID requirements, a 19th century technology solution without being called racist.
Gaming the system is one of the reasons to test early.
A five year old playing a "game" that is really a test of cognitive processing, recall and face recongnition is going to give a much more accurate idea of severity and complexity of the autistic spectrum.
I know my son would not have been diagnosed properly 10 or 15 years ago as autism spectrum. I certainly was not properly diagnosed as a child.
He appears normal, but querky. Would not look you in the eye, could not remember names, even of his best friend and cousins. Can pick up almost any musical instrument and make, if not music, a pleasing set of sounds from it. No interest in learning to play tho, just plink. Kinda sad, we have a semi-retired concert piano tracher down the street, she offered to tutor him for free after hearing him plick away on her stienway. Cheerful disposition at almost any time, is very charming and girls even a few years older just come up to him and talk to him. Hell, he was asked out on his first date by a girl at age 8. At age 9 he is 5 feet all, adrenal glands are in puberty, but not his petutitary. Very picky eater. He can do 2 position multipliers in his head, 4 digit add/subtract. At age 7. At age 8 he could solve for X with the four classic operators. At 9 he could perform 3 and 4 step math problems in his head. Not a math genius, but gifted.
Classic aspergers, an autistic spectrum disorder. Height stinky armpits and pubic fuzz aside, he appears normal. Aside from his natural attractiveness to the opposite sex, he is a typical geek.
Careful testing as revealed that he can store information in his brain, but it is hard for him to get it back out effectively. It is sort of like a bad hash algorithm...
If I tell him the boy work a red hat, a green shirt and blue pants, and then I ask him what the boy wore, he would say "I don't know."
Give him a key, and he can return the value. "what color was the hat?" gets an instant "Red" response. Even a day later he will retain and retrieve the color of the hat.
if you ask him what a book was about, he says "I don't know". Ask him about the boy in the story, or an event in the story you get near total recall, but he needs the key supplied to him.
Ask him to name ten Pokemon or bakugon no dice. Give him a name, you are buried in detail and stats and battle pre plays from a book or a show he has seen.
He can memorize 5 spelling words in a single pass. 8 takes him 4 or 5 tries. Give him ten, you are, lucky if he can memorize 2. Mind you, that ten cold be made of words he learned in two 5 word sessions, and he will not be able to recall the information, but we know it is there.
So all of his therapy is around socialization and how to build his own keys to his knowledge and socialization skills. They are all skills I had to build myself because I was never diagnosed until my 20s.
Now he gets some services for free, some we pay for, like a writing tutor. Autistic awareness has resulted in more autistics being identified and read, and that is a good thing.
However, if they had been better stewards of the money and not spent like drunken sailors on DotCom era perks, and maybe not built the plant in an area with high property costs and high labor... They would have able to compete with Chinese solar panels.
And I would argue that anthromorphic climate change is the misapplication of the natural heating and cooling cycle of the earth.
Yes, global warming is real. It is the rate and cause that I don't see proof for yet.
And when someone says, such was Al Gore and others that the science is "settled" my alarm bells go off.
If we can justifiably contest the law of gravity and the speed of light through experiments, then something like AGW has no special place that it cannot be challenged or scrutinized at every claim.
Another difference between Kodak and Nikon/Cannon is that those companies continued to develop high end cameras and the trickle the technology down to consumer goods.
Kodak fell into a mushy middle ground, with no Professnal or pro-sumer products for serious buyers and not enough differential at the low end of the market.
When I went to buy my first digital cameras, I stuck with the names I knew from film: Cannon, Pentax and Sony (Minolta)
The Kodaks looked like Modern day Brownies. Functional, but very basic.
You are following the planned Parenthood side of the debate just fine. It has major holes in the argument.
The bill is saying that before an abortion, you must view the sonogram. A sonogram the doctor MUST do to do the abortion safely. Techniques for abortion are very stage dependent and a sonogram is they only way to be sure.
So you must view that sonogram that is medically required by the abortion itself.
Nowhere is it mandated that you must go in and a have a separate sonogram unrelated to the abortion to have the abortion done.
Turn the argument around: If someone put forth a bill that a sonogram CANNOT be done before an abortion to protect the patients privacy the doctors would be up in arms.
The sonogram is medically necessary. Only the viewing is new, and I don't see how that makes it rape.
Discourages abortions?
Of course, but that's a different debate. Claiming it is rape with a specious argument is avoiding that discussion.
Ultrasounds, PLanned Parenthood's word for a Sonogram, are used to make a sonogram.
Sonogram is the more precise word, but they are the same procedure.
Also, at the end of Slate's article:
Correction, Feb. 21, 2012: This article originally stated that, under normal circumstances, a forced transvaginal ultrasound "would constitute rape under state law." Virginia law considers object sexual penetration a felony separate from rape. (Return to the corrected sentence.)
I doubt that would stand up in court, it is not penetration for the purpose of sexual gratification.
Which is still immaterial. The doctor must perform the "Ultrasound" [sic] to do the abortion. The patient has already agreed to the procedure.
The only thing added is looking at the results.
I mean, if they passed a law saying you had to see the results of your colonoscopy before the polyps were removed, would that be anal rape? (or felony anal penetration by Virgina law)
The sonogram happens either way, and it is not intervaginal except during a very specific week of gestation, otherwise the external one is used. What is being required is that the sonogram be shown to the patient before the procedure.
See below for the Virgina Planned Parenthood's own FAQ:
âoePatients who have a surgical abortion generally come in for two appointments. At the first visit we do a health assessment, perform all the necessary lab work, and do an ultrasound. This visit generally takes about an hour. At the second visit, the procedure takes place. This visit takes about an hour as well. For out of town patients for whom it would be difficult to make two trips to our office, weâ(TM)re able to schedule both the initial appointment and the procedure on the same day.
Medical abortions generally require three visits. At the first visit, we do a health assessment, perform all the necessary lab work, and do an ultrasound. This visit takes about an hour. At the second visit, the physician gives the first pill and directions for taking two more pills at home. The third visit is required during which you will have an exam and another ultrasound.â
Oh yes there is.
If company A does not have earnings, it does not get tax benefits. the government neither risks or loses anything. It does reward success.
If it is getting government funding, it gets the money either way.
See, you have be at least marginally successful to get the tax benefit, but a total loser of a company, like Solyndra, gets taxpayer money gratis.
Occupy anyone?

He was not on his home turf, he as visiting someone. He lived with his mother.
I would not be surprised of that gated community has a requirement underaged visitors must be escorted, they generally do here in CA.
If so, where was the adult?
He was well built enough to make it onto a school football team. Clear indication he was not an Xbox jock.

It also gave us eugenics, Aether, the fixed universe, phrenology, and Fleischmann/Pons cold fusion.
Many scientific theories that are accepted as truth at the time turn out to be false, or are superceeded as science finds out more.
And sometimes, as in the case of phrenology and eugenics, people are harmed in the name of science.
