Star Trek? I am trying to make sure my boy next finds the stuff. He prefers real stories, like The Voyage of Bran, Tain, and even more modern stories like LOTR.

    Oh well.

Most likely I missed the comment. I tend not to read too many of the comments in a /. article, cause more or less they wander off topic very quickly.

As for priorities, I have them. Infact, in a the next minute, after taking a 20 minute or so look at my email and /. I am going back to entertaining my son, and _reading_ him more of the Tain and building castles with him.

oh well, I expected this :)

With the risk of being abused by ACs I'll have to reply to the above comment.

You complain of everyone here having priorities wrong, with their wheeties, computer games and Gutenburg press stuff. Yet in turn your priority seems to be aimed at wasting your time abusing people.

Oh well, I guess having books to read easily (even in poorer nations that may have just been in a war) isnt really a useful thing. Kids dont need to read I suppose.

Ay, I know its related to a penquin species. Its just interesting usuage of language. Now, which was named first, the species of penguin or the euphemism.. Probably someone comparing protitutes (the example I can find, involves shipwrecked 'soon to be house servants' becoming prostitutes, which were named 'gentoos'..)

And to the ACer that offered to kick my 'nutz' inm thank you very much, I enjoy them not kicked in, and frankly, if you dont understand the interest one can have with linguistics, I am not suprised, you seem to have issues with the CAPSLOCK key.

It seems that Gentoo was a south african word, used as an international term for a 'prostitute'. I just wonder whether it is an appropriate word-relationship for a linux distribution. I mean, you get linux for free rather than pay for it.

Taking DVD players as an example, almost everyone I know (except those that buy flashy sony models) has either a region-free dvd player (ignores region suggestions) or a auto-region dvd player (changes its 'region' internally depending on the disc.. this by-passes some of the newer region locked discs which wont play on region-free players).

Heck, in the next week or so, a few discs I had ordered from the US will arrive. They will play perfectly (thankfully the dvd player also converts NTSC-out to PAL-out).

I can remember when I was doing programming classes at university. We had to learn programming concepts using Pascal. And then from everything onwards was done on *nix (mostly ultrix and SunOS).

Which meant, gcc, vi and emacs, dbx or gdb. And it also meant that the lecturer could compile it on any of the 4 or 5 types of unix we had in the department.

Hate to be really pedantic, but RMSs behaviour is closer to socialism than communism. Communism basically suggests an even share of the community for everyone, socialism contraststs this by offering shares in proportion to the effort put into the comunity.

Essentially, if you get off your arse, you get 'standing' (Sounds a bit like the whole online-community to me).
