  1. Nice but useless on Ask Slashdot: Would You Use A Cellphone With A Kill Code? · · Score: 2

Availability of this feature would result in new regulations which make it illegal to nuke your phone when asked to hand it over to a border agent/law enforcement officer. Add something like 1 year in prison etc and the functionality is practically useless.

  2. Well, I've tried eBooks and switched back to paper for novels and any other casual reading. Hard to explain why, it just feels more comfortable.

  3. If you dig deeper on German Court: "Sharing" Your Amazon Purchases Is Spamming (reuters.com) · · Score: 1

If you dig deeper, you'll find some more details about the reason behind the ruling. The problem isn't really the sending of the mail as such, but the fact that Amazon can collect the email addresses of non-clients and (maybe) use them in future marketing campaigns (aka spam). If these recommendation links on the Amazon website would open a "New Message" window in your own mail software instead, there probably wouldn't be a problem (but this would be a real challenge to implement across all platforms).

  4. Trademark, not patent on Swiss Launch of Apple Watch Hit By Patent Issue · · Score: 4, Informative

It's a trademark issue about the name, not a patent issue. See http://www.steigerlegal.ch/2015/04/04/falschmeldung-apple-watch-und-das-schweizer-patent/ (in german) for a picture of the trademarked logo (and run the page through Google Translate for the details).

  5. Re:Trademarks have to be protected on Swiss Railway: Apple's Using Its Clock Design Without Permission · · Score: 2

Based on which facts do you assume that AJ All Clocks didn't license the clock design? SBB doesn't have a problem with licensing per se, just with copycats.

PS: And if you ever come to Switzerland you will find out that the railroads are quite efficiently operated there.

Why use grep (twice) if you call awk at the end anyway?

    ps -ef |awk '/[b]luefish/ { print $2 }'

And to get back to the topic at hand: Even if your unix/linux box is hardly booting any longer due to severe issues, at least /bin/sh will be available (while python, perl and all the other fancy stuff may already be gone).

  8. Unrealistic study on Scientists Discover Tipping Point for the Spread of Ideas · · Score: 2

The study assumes 10% "strongly convinced" vs 90% "opinion-less". This is not very realistic. When you change the parameters to 10/80/10 you get a fluctuation between the two extrems (as to be expected).

    > then suck all the air out of the container building

Which actually represents the difficult part. Besides that, the underwater facility allows for testing of equipment as well as humans under harsh conditions.

They did actually think about it. If you install software through the Software Installer, you are prompted for an Admin User/Password.

Your email address is in the AAC file you buy from the iTunes Store. It is NOT in the MP3 file you converted the track into in order to put it on CD.
