    dslreports is nice, tho there is a world outside the US .. I'd like to find a page that would build stats for cable/dsl providers all over the world. Anyone knows one ?

    well, in belgium getting 128 kbps uplink with any basic cable/dsl isp is pretty normal .. I have to pay 2x more a month to get 512 kbps up (and a static ip). uplink is always the weak spot.

    I guess there are several reasons why the difficulty value varies, one of them obviously beeing how much data the box sends back to the scanner (like, a box with no services running and well firewalled wouldnt obviously give you as much info as the one in you example). fyodor has a great doc on this here : http://www.insecure.org/nmap/nmap-fingerprinting-a rticle.html

    There needs to be some system of accountability and a standardized measure of competence in order to be allowed onto the Internet.
    Maybe I'm elitist, but that's how I feel about it all.


    elitist ? maybe you meant nazi or something ? There definitely needs to be some way of getting rid of the DDoS shit (improved routing, i guess), but in no way do we need a system that disallows people from getting on the net for any kind of reason. that just sounds insane to me. the internet is and will stay (we do all hope so) a 'free' and open place.

    i dont think you got me right here. I'm not actually talking about kids that call themselve brainkids at all, my point is that many kids that get kicked out school do pass IQ and other tests, many of em showing a very high scores. (no i dont beleive an IQ test shows much - but many of these kids really are impressing). Now maybe you think having excellent notes at school makes someone smarter, but that just sounds plain crap to me. I spent some time with clueless students sitting at their desk 24/7 to get higher notes and i can tell you that's not how my life looks like. anyway, stay in your comfortable little world and all should be fine.

    hehe i'm being serious here.. many 'brainkids' just drop out of school or get kicked out for beeing a pain in the ass, and many of them get ridiculous notes at exams and such. I'm pretty sure many of you slashdotters will agree here : there's nothing worse than wasting your time sitting in front of a bunch of clueless idiots trying to teach you stuff you already know.

    IMHO, if a game has a reasonable price say like 50% of what it is worth today, people would start considering buying them. Afterall, they're nothing but blank disks, a booklet and a nice color package, and authors could earn more by selling more. Yeah i know I'm dreaming again but hey .. just like why should i pay a fucking 25 bucks for a cd, knowing I give 5% of that to the artist I support ? music should be free anyway. okay forget it I need some sleep
