That's a lot of area. If we consider that only a third of the world is developed, use the current estimate of the number of people in the WHOLE world (6,218,162,742/3), That's (trusting my elementary math skillz) 2007 square miles -- A square roughly 45 miles a side.
Of course, if this turns out to be feasible, then we encourage "pollution" by saying that CO2 emissions are a nonissue. What about emissions of NO2 (major smog/low-level ozone contributor)?
And then we start the endless cycle of: more CO2 -> more "limestone" converters in the dessert-> more CO2 -> more converters -> wash -> rinse -> repeat
I'm young, too. I'm burnt out on living the "American Dream". I have been working for 5 years. I have a nice income. I live in a big house in the 'burbs.
It sucks. I'm in a rut. I am looking at bailing and moving back to my homestate, buying some land, and developing a sustainable dwelling while doing something that I'm passionate about. It is going to take time.
Complication: I am supporting a wife and two children. Recently, my wife has come round to support my view of what is important in life. IT IS NOT MONEY.
So, my advice is: finish the degree, find a job, and explore your passion. You have time. You don't have to have everything now. Exercise patience.
...what it is that people are doing to be worried about being caught in the first place. I mean privacy is one thing, but usually people use it to hide things that they are ashamed of.
I'm not worried. I haven't done anything to be ashamed of. You can monitor everything that I do all you want to. The problem comes when someone (i.e. congress) passes legislation that makes what I do illegal. I'm more concerned about someone getting ahold of personal financial infomation who shouldn't, therefore that info is encrypted _if_ I ever transmit it electronically.
Ay, fur cryin' oot lood! Give me a break from your stupid dogma! THINK people. Don't just blindly follow some stupid script(ure). A good mother will not just say "no, because I said so" or "no because Father O'Mcflannigan said so" or "no, because the bible says so". A good mother will say, "yes, you may as long as we can have a discussion about it afterwards to talk about the different points of view". I am so disgusted when people voluntarily limit their own intellect by avoiding anything that might be "of a different ilk" or "immoral" or "inspired by satan". I am EXTREMELY purturbed by those who try to inflict their own warped views upon the rest of us. Get a life. We all have a differently warped view. Yours is no better.
And what the hell is this about religious discrimination because organized school prayer is restricted in school?
1. School is about exercising your brain muscle, not subjecting your self to mindless recitation
2. Organized prayer discriminates against all the non-christian individuals.
You wanna pray? Go sit in your locker or in a bathroom stall because I don't want to be subjected to it.

Maybe a temporary "fix" at best?

(okay. I'm breathing again...)
