Hook up power strips to the UPS outputs but beware about powerstrips not playing nicely with the generated square wave coming from the UPS when the AC line drops. Some fancy power strips see it as a voltage dip and spike and switch off to protect the equipment.
You should have no problem with running a small home office with a 3000VA UPS. I have two servers (mid towers), a gaming machine, 3com 24 port layer 2 switch, and a 3com pathbuilder s500 split between a APC 1500 RM and a APC 1400 RM XL. I would recommend getting the ethernet management card to go with it. It's nice to have it send pages when the power goes out, battery failure, etc.
Sometimes it isn't easy to figure out exactly what did happen after the fact. In addition, they could still be in the proccess of fixing the problem even though they've publicly stated it has been fixed. Remember all those times when your dialup ISP told you it was your telephone company's problem to get you stuck in a loop of call centers to get some time while they fixed a few authenication servers that went down at the ISP.:P
Wait a minute...aren't "MP3 Encoders" suppose to produce.mp3 files?.ogg =/=.mp3 I don't know about the rest of you but my portable mp3 player can't read a.ogg file so whats the point of making them.
I personally wouldn't mind so much if we could just run windows 9x or 2000 on top of linux so at least my poor system doesn't have to reboot every time it crashes or needs to be restarted.:P
Wow....some people are really worried about email. Have man of you forgotten what mail servers commonly do (yes, many do actually do this!) if they can't reach a mail box the first few tries? Most will try for up to FOUR DAYS before it gives up on the message. If your that worried about your email messages why are you even reading them at home let alone storing them on your ISPs server anyway? Download your mail and write it to DAT tapes, burn cds, etc... If your really into it go pay a grand or so a month to have a computer (or two since you want a backup) in a verio, uunet, etc. server rack with those kind of "drop dead reliability" standards. For the normal people out there...storing your email on a home server usually isn't a problem. I've personally have had a private mail server for several years on the same laptop (it has a 6hour battery back up is why I used a laptop for your interested people...) without problems. It can be done and it works fine for normal people out there. Drop me an email if you want help setting up something like that. At the very least I'll point you in the right direction.

Give them some credit, not all research takes less than a year to complete.
