  1. I wish someone made that, too. on Laptops, Headless Servers and KVMs? · · Score: 1

I think a laptop that can function as a monitor, keyboard and mouse for another system would come in really handy.

I'd also like to see someone make a pc in laptop form factor- without the monitor and keyboard to use as a headless server. I know there are lots of small pc's out there, but has anyone seen one in a laptop form factor? I think they'd make nice servers for a small apartment- quiet, small and stackable. Also, I have to imagine that it would be not entirely difficult to mass produce one with exisiting manufacturing lines, but I really have no idea what I'm talking about as far as that goes- just a guess.

With a combination of your device (laptop that accepts vga and keyboard in), and some of my devices, I'd be set.

Do you think any hardware manufacturer's read slashdot?

I think some sites would volunteer for a .xxx domain; it might even increase traffic. Most content providers don't make money from hits; they make money from people signing up with a credit card. A .xxx directory of sites could be easily maintained, and might help drive revenue.

It seems that he challenge here would be to keep the .xxx domain completely voluntary, with no legal pressure whatsoever. Just make it an option, and see what happens. I agree that this is probably not possible- it's too tempting for lawmakers to make laws.

Thanks for pointing this out- I was thinking this as I read most of the comments. In a sense, this reminds me of the theory about how capitalism can start to eat its own tail.

On the flip-side, I think globalization is ultimately a good thing, but it's going to hurt for a while, as those that are used to a larger piece of the pie than the rest of the world face the prospect of less (myself included).

Of course, as the US loses jobs (as I think it will continue to do), the cost of living may well go down, too, because fewer people will be able to pay high rents/mortgages, US companies will buy fewer expensive US goods (because there are fewer US employees to use them) so they'll have to lower their prices, etc.

I think it's kind of amusing (in a dark way) that as a country, it seems like we're starting to run out of core competencies. We don't manufacture that much, we're losing our technical jobs, and our health-care system is degrading. We're really good at suing eachother, though, and making money by betting on how companies will do, and our reality TV is just top-notch :P.

wonder how the global economic Darwinism will play out...
