Whoops. Sorry about that, you're right. The reason that I got such a screaming deal was that I bought it at the same time as an Inspiron 1535. I got confused. Only the 1GB of RAM, which is the maximum. Also, before you rip me a new one, I got the maximum of 16GB SSD (not 20GB). Because I can tell that you're a stickler for precision, I'll include the full inventory. After I called them up, they waived the shipping charges, but I don't expect you to believe that.

  2. Mini 9 owner. XP delivered, Ubuntu reloaded. on 1 of 3 Dell Inspiron Mini Netbooks Sold With Linux · · Score: 0

When I got mine, they weren't shipping with Linux. Because the cost was too good to pass up ($149 with 3GB Ram and 20GB SSD), I took delivery and reloaded it with Ubuntu. Works great. I've had no problems.

  4. OpenNT & Interix 2.2 on Windows Marketing Executive Doug Miller · · Score: 1

Softway Systems Interix software was one of the tools that made NT reasonably manageable. When Microsoft bought out your company 1 1/2 years ago, I feared that they would bury it and/or render it useless.

Looking at the latest version of MS Interix, I feel that I was justified in my concerns. No real improvements have been made, and a number of usefull tools have been removed (vi, for example).

How do you respond to Microsoft's predatory aquisition of OpenNT, and it's eventual castration? Is this the type of innovation that we can expect as Microsoft strives to create "great software"?

  5. Re:This is not about Money ( ! AMEN!) on Salon on the Red Hat IPO Eligibility · · Score: 1

If it's not about money, buy it early when it IPOs. You'll still own a piece of the company and you could sell it whenever you liked (and not ruin your chances of getting into another IPO later at E*Trade when it might be more about making money).

When it's all said and done, I think that Red Hat is an EXTREMELY risky stock to get involved in. Any stock that attracts a large amount of non-saavy investors is ripe for market-maker manipulation. I love Linux, I really like Red Hat, but I'm going to stay away from the stock like the plague.

With an IPO, you'll have to buy a minimum amount of shares (let's say 100). At an IPO price of 10-14 dollars (my guess), you'll be paying at least a thousand dollars for your wall hanging.

Do it if you want, but only if you're prepared to lose it all.
