Microsoft the equivilant to a serial killer? I hardly see a similarity.
You are compairing a murderer who has no shame for his crimes in brutally slaughtering his victims and a business who provides just competition. Microsoft doesn't committ any acts of violence and indescretion in the computer industry. Competeing companies just can't keep up with the giant.
Look at Netscape.
It was a great idea and Microsoft thought... fuck that is a great idea lets make one of our own. (Now all businesses are about money, don't forget that) So they realized they had competition so they...
A. Made a better browser
and B. Starved the competition
What they did wasn't illegal or wrongful or unjust. Linux distros do it all the time. They tie in with the OS a series of applications. Some distros have 1500 apps, some have 3000 apps. They are all in competition with each other because they all sell their version with a price tag. (Plus an option to download) You can't say they aren't in competition becasue they are. They need to pay the bills some how and it isn't through tech support. They are where they are to make money. Period.
Microsoft just made an app that ran and tied it in to Windows 95. Later thinking... oh shit what if we made it apart of the OS, that would be way fucking cool. And in doing so, didn't force you to use the browser, but it sure loaded a hell of a lot faster that Navigator. Because it was already cached and waiting.
Netscape just fucked up! They failed to make a superior product. If they had made a superior browser then we would all be using and paying for it right now wouldn't we? Hmmmm? I think so due to its popularity back in the day. I know it was all I used until realizing 4.X sucked ass against IE5X. Everything just seemd so fast in IE.
Now I know you are a feverous Microsoft hater. But try to show a little respect for a company that is safe to say one of the best things that has ever happened to the computer industry. I mean think about it...
What if Microsoft never existed. No DOS, no Win95, no IE5, nothing. Where would we be? ONe of two places... OS/2 or Macintosh. (Mor likely Macintosh) Linux would still be nearly where it is today. Because the computer industry isn't defined by the techies and IT's... it is defined by the computer semi-illiterate-I-wanna-check-my-email-and-chat.
This is true.
Besides I can only think of two companies that would have made the internet as promising as it is today. Ironically enough they are the ones who did. Microsoft and Apple. When I think of internet, as well as anyone of my computer illiterate friends. We don't think of Linux... the first name that comes to mind is Microsoft. Because they pushed it realizing its potential. They may have not been first to jump on the band wagon... but they sure made the band wagon popular.
That doesn't sound like a sadist killer now does it?
All Linux fans have the same jibberish that spills from their mouths. A conglomerated mess of bad information, fantasy, stupid opinions and Mountain Dew. It is just blah because the only ones who really listen and think you make a point are your own kind.
P.S. Oh, I am sure Microsoft only internet won't ever happen. The internet isn't defined by Microsoft, it is just made more asthetically pleasing by Microsoft.

Whistler is to Zeus as Linux is to Hercules
Microsoft created Win16 and Win32. That was the whole point, to have an API that was compatible between NT and 9x. Of course 99 percent of programs run on it... IT IS THE MOST POPULAR OS IN THE EXISTENCE OF COMPUTERS.
May I? Microsoft isn't a monopoly because it hasn't been proved in court and I doubt it will. If it isn't proven in court then legally they aren't one. That was also pretty fucking stupid of you to think that because since MAC exist and Linux exist that they aren't a monopoly. Tell me, do you eat paint chips for breakfast. Because they sure have fucked up your brain.
Open your eyes oh little peon. Whistler is coming! The day of reckoning is at hand.
They are accused of being a monopoly, they have not proved Microsoft of being a monopoly.
Lemme ask you somthing... say you are the biggest micro-processor manufacturer in the world, and there is this company who specifically purchased the code base and used it to write optimizations in their OS so that the chip and the OS would run more compliant with each other. With that favor paid to you in hand, wouldn't you return the favor in any way possible? OF COURSE YOU WOULD YOU NUMB SKULL! That is the whole point behind businesses, MS did a favor for Intel and now Intel will repay a favor. If that isn't clear enough for you then you are legally retarded.
Now as for this (supposed) array of bullshit -
1. They have a vision, I am going to laugh this fall with Whistler. Considering in order for you to run it you have to buy it. Because I know somthing you don't know. Wanna knnow there vision? To connect everyone. Evolve the internet into one giant gelatenous mass. Evolve it into what it should and not what it is. 100 years from now when people look back at the internets origins. The first name that will appear in every history book will be either (A)Bill Gates (B) MIcrosoft or (C) Windows. Linu$ Torvald$ or Linux won't even be mentioned.
2. Well if there products are soooo bad. Then why does everyone use them? If they are so bad then everyone would use Corel or Mac. If Windows programs are so bad then they wouldn't have even had a chance. Frankly, if Office 2000 was offered on the Linux Plat, I bet you would use it and if you say "no"... (This is my way of saying go to hell) I would reply... "I DON'T BELIEVE YOU."
I am not even touching three and four, if you are that dense then you aren't even worht argueing with.
5. Well for a man who has 50+ billion dollars... he can't be dumb. Chalk another stupid remark made by you.
6. Well at least I can run xchat in root mode without a problem. Whereas every Linux user is insane to do that. Hell someone with enough braisn could shut you down. Then again i wouldn't call Linux secure, it has its holes.
7. I am sure only one or two recruiters came there to get a resume. Doens't mena you will get the job. YOU HAVE TO BE A GOOD RPOGRAMMER! Just in case you didn't know.

I don't see how you can be so naive to deny the truth. Then again I don't see how Microsoft is a monopoly. They are a business and as a business if you have a competitor you crush them. An example of this is Netscape.
It was competition in the browser market. Best way to win? Starve the competition. Say you have 100 dollars and your friend has ten and every ten seconds you give a dollar away, who runs out of money first? (Do I need to do the math?)
My real question is, what is Microsofts bullshit? Seriously? I would like your honest opinion.
What gold? The guy was right. You cannot make a profit off an item that is free. It does not generate revenue. Revenue is money and without it, a company cannot run. Linux is not gold, gold is money. Linux is free, it is sand between our toes that gets irritating from time to time.
To be perfectly blunt, I guy as far up in Corel as he is knows a thing or two about business. Not some kid from Ohio who has yet to take Economics. A good business man knows when somthing has gone awry and the best thing to do is back out. I agree totally.
Open Source maybe a good thing for some, but it is not the answer to the computing world. If it was, it would be Corel and RedHat buying Microsoft stock and not the other way around. It amazes me to see how many Linux fans walk around with their eyes closed. People smart enough to use a complex OS can't even see the reality of the situation.
Of course Slots will run Windows. Linux can't afford too. I mean that money wise. Linux users need to take a good piece of advice.

It is a losing battle and now that the blue screen has become less and less common. All of you are getting just a tad scared. You may deny it, but it is gonna happen.
Open$ource will always be around. There is no denying that. However, Linux will never overpower the reach and the power of the most powerful computer company in the world. For that I laugh in your faces... HA HA HA!
If there is any merger though, it will be MS/Intel. However maybe MS is going for the big blue. Hardware and software. Think about it.
If everyone uses Windows in Israel then I guess you are stuck with the same. Keep (Linux, BeOS, whatever) there as well but when it comes to email and stuff you are gonna have to use Windows for now. Not that it is a horrible thing. Windows has many added bonuses that Linux lacks, or whatever OS you happen to tend to lean to.
The main difference is stability and instability. Now I know what you are thinking, let me stop you from hurting yourself.

I am sorry my friends but Linux may not die off, but it will never dominate. Windows is your daddy.
Well it is about time the Linux community faced the truth... I mean comon people. It took ten years to realize that Windows is superior and Linux is inferior. Windows is the Polar Bear and Linux is the helpless penguin getting helplessly gulped up on after another after another.

Yeah, his school project on the Eastern Woodland indians is due friday and he has to finish his headband and feather.
What cracks me up is how everyone basis the computer market off servers and IT pros. When the truth of the matter is it comes down to the home end user. Mom and Dad, people who are simple and want to check there email and check out stocks. They don't want a command prompt and they don't want to ahve to compile a very unstable email client. (Yes they do exist in the Linux world) So they go with somthing easy and simple. They go to Windows. Because mom and dad will never understand a unix-wannabe (unix-like, unix wannabe, no difference) OS.
Now yes, I will admit that 2k crash, not often but it does crash. But none of you can say that Linux doesn't crash. Why no more than two months ago Redhat had to re-release 7.X becasue it crashed after three weeks. I even crashed Slackware trying to run Xamp. So it is quite possible.
What should bother all of you even more is MS's next release, Whistler. We don't even no what it can do but, two to three months ago ZDNet got to beta test the 20xx build and their exact words were... "stable."

One reason Guttenberg was the number one most important figure of the last 1000 years according to the History Channel. However, as history states the printing press came second to the Renaissance. It was and advance but not a cause.
I will also admit the coming of internet-connectivity is also a very impressive coming of technology but, it still has a long way to go. What we are seeing is the infant stage of the internet. What we are seeing is a slow process on the evolution of an idea made real. This becoes great when it becomes a need. A severe way of living not just for geeks, nerds and what-have-you. But a severe and needed way of living and surviving for all people. Mom and Dad, Grandma and Grandpa, my cat...
When it reaches that stage, I will consider the internet one of the greatest inventions ever.
Another thing that really irks me on the whole "The 100 most infulential people pf the last 1000 yeas" was the association of the internet to Bill Gates. Granted Win95 made connecting more inportant and a greatly needed task, he should not be the associated person! He is a influential person, I mean the guy owns a company that created an OS that runs on 80%+ of all computers. That in it self is impressive!
I love this shit! People accusing or making the assumption that MS is trying to destroy a movement by affecting future programmers. Think about this...
Here is a billion-dollar computer company that got its popular start by making a word processing program called Word for the Apple Mac OS. Now they have an operating system that runs on about 80 percent of all PC home computers. Children are going to use it and eventually get hooked. Maybe develope an interest and perhaps want to start a career in computers. Whether it be as an IT professional or as an administrator or as a gaming developer.
Doesn't matter. Microsoft is protecting there best interest by grabbing these future programmers. Teaching them the tools with the Windows OS. What is wrong with that? If you were president of a multi-billion dollar computer company, wouldn't you do the same? In this example fuck the idea of Open Source. If you had a closed source widely popular OS and needed to keep it alive for fear of losing the power to someone else, wouldn't you do whatever it takes to make sure people stayed with your OS? Of course you would! You can't deny that!
This isn't about indoctrination... it is about the Open Source/Linux Lovers fear of not populating ever computer and destroying such a giant. Because it all comes back to programmers. They make the world of computers go 'round. (Along with hardware developers and yadda yadda yadda)
If the Open Source community fears this. Then fix it! Make somthing simialr. GNOME has already started with a Linux version of VB.
What we have to realize is that MS is always going to be a constant in the computer world. Whether it be as an OS giant or an App Giant. We should just embrace, deal with it and maybe try to do better.

This is such a joke! There is a fine line between hacker and cracker. Hacker being the safer of the two.
I read this in an earlier post but... (a bit off topic to)
Does anyone know where I can find Divine Retribution?
