I think this is more of just a "beta" test to see if processing this sort of information is viable in a distributed environment. The SETI@Home site even says it will only go on for a limited amount of time. If it works well, I would expect to see more of this type of thing in the future.

Why is that the majority of these pseudo-academic papers that get posted to slashdot contain SO many spelling and grammar mistakes? You would think if someone was going to write about the IT industry they would at least learn how to use the spelling and grammar checkers in their word processor.
Boy, some times it amazes me how someone who reads/. can post something like this./. is news for nerds. A nerd is someone who has a moderate level of intelligence. Many people replying to this news item don't appear to have this quality.
I ran it for a total of 13 seconds before it crashed...I typed in 'www.slashdot.org', hit enter, and that was it.
I promptly deleted the whole thing.
Do a 'finger @porn.org' and see who is really into porn....
