Umm, don't you mean FORCE people to write free software. At least if they want to use GPLd software that's what they have to do. Even Linus is making special concessions like allowing loadable kernel modules, otherwise TiVO would be based on BSD because of the anti-commercial GPL license. Even with those special exceptions that have been allowed, developers want freedom, not code that decides their morals for them. This is why NetBSD is getting to be the OS of choice for Handhelds rather than Linux which works on few, and sucks on all.

I admit that Caching data is a great feature that Gnutella could use, but other than that, FreeNet is much less funtional today, after quite a bit of work, than Gnutella was from the beginning. The one good thing about FreeNet is that you can claim you didn't know that you were sharing that movie, the software did it behind your back, but you, the PC user, is still responsible.

I do know about FreeNet, and I'll say that the MPAA will not have a hard time sticking it to users. The only way we can get around being kicked by ISPs, we must tell them to allow us to run our Gnutella's or else we won't use the service at all. That's why Napster was never blocked by ISPs, and that's the same reason the MPAA will not win this fight if we, the users, stick together, and basically form an End-User's Union that works as one and holds much more weight than one or two individuals.

These stations were KTLA and KABC. Two very large stations to be sure. Now those without cable or dish have even less choice, not to mention that, as HDTV propogates, soon recieving the VHF signal from 150+ miles away will not even be a possibility. Pretty soon, the big companies are all in for a challenging conversion to HDTV, and certanly some will fail and drop from the race. I don't doubt that soon all we will recieve will be KNBC and our local station. Meanwhile, the FCC is doing the exact opposite what it should, and is helping to monopolize the airwaves.

In other words, they are working so hard to prevent their past mistakes that they are causing new ones.

I know a lot of people will say this same thing, but I really mean it:

I have been seriously considering getting a Mac. Mainly to educate myself and see where that leads. I was trying to make up my mind between Sun and Apple. Why not go with the Mac? Several really nice web browsers. All the multimedia software you could want ('ooohhhh, a legal DVD player you say?') and it's certanly got all of the features I miss about Window$ (Quicktime, Media Player, Macromedia, etc). It just seemed like the no-brainer choice for a desktop to replace Windows and compliment Linux.

After hearing this bull going on constantly... cripling opensource programers left and right, I'm going to steer clear of Apple. Not only that, I'm not going to venture into SUN territory either. I've learned my lesson but good this time! Never trust a company for your software. Be them Apple, Micro$oft, or RedHat. I get a Bare OS and I make it into the OS I want it to be.

We don't need anything OpenSource doesn't have to offer! Once there's an opensource clone of RealPlayer I'll be set. What else do we really need? If you can think of anything needed not available in OpenSource, le me know. Either I'll point you to it, or work on it myself!

Many Unix users still use Windows or Macs, claiming they have no choice because of program Z. There are always alternatives for us, and we need not look back to the EvilEmpire any more. People need to cut the cord and free themselves of propriety. Free Speech tastes better than free Beer, and a person willing to trade one for the other, doesn't deserve either. Once I settled on XFce as my desktop I've had no urge to use anything else.

If Apple wants to screw over developers, fine. I'll be in the promised land while others all complain about what is done, and little will be accomplished. Enjoy your strugles, I've seen the end of the rainbow, and it leads right back where we already have been.

In every device where I've used them, they last just slightly less than the Alkaline batteries I used previously (Energizer AAs if you really care to know). Besides that, on an equal mAh rating between Alkaline and NickelCadmium batteries, the NiCad should be significantly shorter because of the 1/4 volt less chrarge.
