You even mention AIM+ICQ but don't mention that AOL owns them both... Yet they didn't create ICQ... Sound like Microsoft Getting DOS? anyone??? And of course it's not like AOL realized other AIM-Compatible clients were a threat and cause incompatibilities. Oh, umm, wait, they did. Yahoo Messenger, Prodigy's messenger, and MSN's messenger come to mind, not to mention serveral Linux Clients that were put out of comission.
Did you ever wonder why IE is more widely used than" Netscape? Perhaps because if you run AOL you are surfing with IE. That's 40 Million people! I demand a recount, "I didn't punch the right hole."
It seems Crud-Puppy was right, AOL is the "new evil".
You think you're anonymous as is? Why should domain owners be different? I admit the spam potential is pretty bad, but other than that all of the same info is found in any emails you send. I don't see the difference here.
Sounds like "2001 A Space Odyssey" is comming true at just the right time....:-D
Of course... Why didn't I think of that!?
"Hal, we're going to delete the Windows partitions and install Linux"
"I'm afraid I can't let you$@%$##@%% Segmentation Fault. Hit any key to attempt to terminate the current application and continue or hit Ctrl + Alt + Del to reboot the system."
You have to face facts... Anything that has ever been created has been cracked... So when Chinese computer crackers fingure out how to remotely control our computer systems in these aircrafts, our own force will attach us. Even the government hasn't figured out how to protect it's webservers, do you trust them to make un-crackable systems in these aircraft? Imagine a launched missle suddenly turning around and comming torwards you.
Even if that isn't a concern, you will be able to track these vehicals because they must be constantly broadcasting and recieving radio signals...
If anyone has any info on this that will put my concerns to rest I'd like to hear them!
...Moderators moderated based on content rather than their opinions? Gee, maybe this would be moderated down because it's off-topic rather than being moderated up because they 'felt like it'.
The only way we can get rid of karma whores and trolls is to make the default scores for all posts "0" instead of "1". That way people would need to post GOOD-comments rather than just posting tons of crap and getting points, as long as it doesn't get moderated down.
(Perhaps someone should let CmdrTaco know that all is not kosher in Moderator town)
And having said that I hope you're set to view -1 comments.... Moderators are worse than politicians and nobody's doing anything about either
People have no sight... Spoofing isn't the only problem to worry about.. You also will have proxies no matter what method of tracking you use. Besides that, wether hardware of software, it can and will be hacked! Just Ask the DVD-CCA.
Is everyone forgetting the big College Campus Napster problem? If te Napster Server was outside the US, their server would simply be blocked by American ISPs. Lets not forget that most ISPs bent over and grabbed their ankles when the FBI introduced a little thing called Carnivore. What makes the USA any different than UCLA?
You try to compare apples and oranges here. When stores get up, run away and hide, people notice. When some anonymous person who emailed you is never to be heard from again, that's just expected. Besides, if it's a store you can look and see that they do indeed have the product, and you don't give them money until they give you the item. There are big differences here

Jurisdiction seems to be a big question on this subject... The answer is quite simple really.
If you put up DeCSS or Napster the MPAA could get a couple pegasis missles and, umm, politely mention that they don't approve of your content.
The policy is to piss-off as few contries with ICBS as possible or else your server's life in space would be short lived.

Sure ,today you're giving out demo songs, tomorrow you'll be suing Justin Frankel.
