Really? Where is the evidence that that is "even costlier"?
At the same location as the evidence that it would be "costly" to switch. Nobody has evidence here. It's just common logic. Having to buy twice as many tools is more expensive than buying tools for just one system.
1. Is is offered for free. 2. The broadcaster knows that waves cross the boundary, and didn't reasonably tried to block people outsite the US to receive the signal.
You don't understand what a market failure is. A market failure doesn't mean it's bad for everyone. I am sure tool makers are happy to sell twice as many tools because of the two system used. It's a market failure because it's less efficient for mankind as a whole than to use a single, standard, measurement system. The only argument for the imperial system is the transition cost.
And it's more relevant than ever. The world has never been more globalized. And the US has never been so alone with a non-metric unit system (along with Myanmar and Liberia). Standards matter. And no, I won't 3D print a tool just because I need a custom one to unscrew that 3D-printed, non-standard bolt. It's better to have standard tools.
Except that the copyright holders are free to sell only to those in the US if they want to. Just because you could theorically hack Netflix and get the service without even paying doesn't mean that it's not a copyright violation. So I really don't see what your point is.
"The industry" is not a monolithic bloc. It's full of individuals and corporations. None of them are big enough to push for such a change. Even though the result is higher costs for everyone. It's a perfect example of market failure.
They are paying for Netflix Canada. The price is not the same as Netflix USA. It's not even in the same currency. Netflix is free to offer different content to different countries.
And this is offtopic. You are free to fly to the US to watch US-only Netflix content. That's not the same as paying Netflix Canada, in Canada, and use a VPN to get US content.
The thing is that you are not buying Netflix in the US. You are buying it in Canada. And by using a VPN service, you are faking that you are travelling to the USA (where, by Netflix standards, you have the right to more shows). Netflix has distribution rights for the USA only on certain shows. By using VPN, you and/or Netflix are doing a copyright violation. Again, that is not stealing.
Stealing is taking something from someone. Violating copyright is another issue but it is not stealing. Also a rapist is not a stealer even if they are both evil.
It's not "how" it's "where". Copyright holders of movies want to sell at different prices in different countries. When you are paying for Netflix Canada, you are not paying for content exclusive to the US.
"Going Metric" really has nothing to do with measuring in Centimeters and Celsius and never did. It really has to do with retooling industry and parts to new standard sizes. The problem is it is very costly to do so.
You know what is even costlier? To keep both unit systems and never transition to the world standard. This way you need tools for both unit systems. Switching to metric has a cost. But afterwards it's savings forever, and easier trading with the rest of the world.
Having to change the security policy on every PC where my script will run is a total pain. I might as well compile an executable. If ActiveX was disabled by default (for security) it would never have been used to begin with. And that's the reason why nobody uses Power Shell and lots of people still use.CMDs.
Having to sign the script completely defeats the purpose of having scripts in the first place. I want scripts because: 1. no need to compile anything 2. can be edited right away on any PC using a text editor, and executed again 3. no need to install any framework or runtime.
I can distribute and run a.exe on any PC anyway. Why couldn't I do the same with a Power Shell script?
I know. However it means that I can't use Power Shell in software that I develop since I need to use it on many different PCs. So I am still stuck with.cmd when I need to script something on Windows.
I mean, they will take OpenSSH, compile-it for Windows, and make sure Power Shell is the default login shell. Then what? What piece of code could the Open SSH project want from Microsoft exactly?
They told me it wasn't their fault if my TV was broken and they didn't have any replacement available, because my TV was made by LG Korea. I bet they will use a similar lame excuse again.
You are forgetting that at the same time there is a war between Microsoft and Apple for the PC OS market. That's why there are two wars. Apple could indeed probably gain OS market share by selling their OS to anyone. It would help them in the OS war, but they could loose more in the PC war. And yes, the PC war may be more important to them, however it doesn't mean the OS war doesn't exist.
Rumor has it that the reason we have USB C is because of Apple.
Rumors are probably wrong. If Apple wanted to make their connector standard, they would have given their dock and lightning connectors. Instead, they compete against a standard connector again.

Just use tenth of Celcius then. It will be even wider.
It might be a copyright violation however, since the intent of the distributor is to offer the content only in the USA.
Having to sign it is a pain. As I said, I prefer to compile an executable than to sign a script.

Just like USB or Ethernet, a new revision needs 10x the speed to be worthwhile.

Yeah, one device out ot how many? 20? 19 more to go.
