That's a very true and vaild point. And if I had been told that, I wouldn't be so damn irritated. Instead I get the "no interest in cell phones" quote. Which doesn't really translate to, it's not cost effective.
Combine that with the fact that towers are and have been built in even more remote / rural areas than mine here in Northern Minnesota (less population & less traffic), along with the fact that this is a pretty busy area for shipping (i.e. really big semi's), I'm thinking they haven't done homework for this specific area.
The plus side is the fact, I keep the offer out there, for whomever wants. And with cell / wireless growth only getting bigger someone someday will take up my offer.
I've been trying to lease out area in my 'South 40' to a cell phone company for over a year (cash, service or cash & service). No takers.
I live in a rural area, and I'm smack in the middle of 10-50 mile 'dead zone' and outside that area by about another 15-15 miles, the service is horrible. The excuse I hear? There is no interest in cell phones in your area. Well, duh. No intrest, because no service. Everyone around here has a cell phone, they just can't use them at home.
I just pray to God I won't have to put up with those &%$#@ Intel badges I see on every windows box & laptop. It's a computer, not NASCAR fer &%$#**!@@# sake!
I live on laptops and use my desktops at home and the office for geeking and experimenting. My two day-to-day laptops (two, for 24/7 backup) are my business machines. I don't need them to do a whole lot - except work reliably, which is why I am fed up with WinTel.
This was why I made the switch. Almost word for word. I was always so stressed-out and just feeling miserable all around. What drives home this point of switching for me is, I actually feel better and more healthy after the switch. I'm thinking that the stress of dealing with Win/Reliability was making me ill. So it works for me.
Of course YMMV.
I live in a very rural town. The whole town is nothing more than a bar and a gas pump (not a gas station, a single gas pump). And right down the road from me is a little company called Northwoods DNA. MPR Report. And I do mean right down the road. You just need to do research before making your move, and you can do tech and have rural living.
The extra added benefit of rural living is uber cheap land. I currently own and live on 200 acres with 80 acres being woodland. It's allowed my wife to fulfill her dream of owning a horse ranch. It's quiet, I can only see my neighbors house at night, if they leave the outside lights on. I have DSL, Cable TV, indoor plumbing and the works. Ten years ago I would have told you that I was going to move to a larger city. Now I plan on spending the rest of my life in a rural enviroment. It's pure bliss. YMMV
I've got several tattoos, to the point where percent of body coverage is counted, not individual tattoos. I also have multiple ear piercings, a very large tounge stud, and hair down to my waist. I've never found it to hamper me in any way. In fact in most cases I'm the person whom gets to meet with clients. And it's never been a problem with them either. I can still look and act professional, how I look does not stop me in that. The only thing people find odd is the fact that my wife does not have tattoos or multiple piercings.
The only time I have ever seen problems associated with tattoos or piercings is when the wearer allows them to become an issue. The 'I look different, so treat me different' mentality that seems to pervade the body-mod community. Everyone makes a statement, from what tie, shoes or color of jacket they wear all the way to what direction they part there hair. People whom choose not to have body-mods do not ask for different treatment, so those of us whom choose to adorn ourselves should expect the same.
I'll second DreamHost. I've used them for years and have just loved it. Support is good, and the price is as well.

Just taking a chance here, but is this the Smidge from Northern Minnesota?
