My company creates very large sites with LAMP. We also do Python, Flash, etc. so it's not because we only know PHP. If you don't see the job postings it's for one of 2 reasons: you're looking in the wrong places; or the jobs are largely found by networking and other methods.

Large financial companies will find developers through job posting sites and head hunters. These companies usually develop on commercial platforms (.NET, websphere, etc.). But large web sites are usually owned by relatively small companies who use more networking and direct contact with open source developers.

PHP and MySQL are quite capable of running large web sites. They were not created with large scale in mind, however, so there are special considerations you need to keep in mind. I don't recommend it for every lage site, but in the right situations it works.

You can make a game where there's a strict story and the player has few options. That can get boring because the user doesn't have to think much.

So every game needs to strike a balance depending on its goals.

Should we make it legal to con little old ladies into giving away their entire life savings? Why not? Where do you see a difference

When a little old lady gets conned it's quite obvious. When a porn star picks the name Barbie it's not clear if she's intending to deceive.

I think it just makes you guys feel smart and important to get apocalyptic and pissed about everything.

I think it just makes you feel righteous to "protect the children" and not realize there are negative consequences.

There actually isn't a clear difference. That's why it's debated here online and in court. For example, porn stars don't usually use their real names. It could be argued that a porn star who picks the name Barbie is trying to lure kids into porn. Only the porn star really knows. Now she can be dragged into court for no other reason than the choice of her own name.

Free speech debates are never black-and-white.

In NYC there are at least 2 AM stations that broadcast traffic reports every 10 minutes (880, 1010). My father's been listening to them since before I was born. This is far safer and probaby even easier than trying to bring it up on your cell. Plus they tell you what's going to be happening in the near future, like typical rush-hour traffic jams and construction.

There are other options, so stay off the cell.

No insights, but I'll say it's a myth. What's really happening is your results are partly based on age. If your domain has no history you'll need steady flow of many new inbound links for google to consider you of any value. If you don't have enough new inbound links over time google will wait for your domain to age to consider it a little more valuable.

Basically I'm saying age is just another of many factors. There is not sandbox per se.

That's not exactly true. While many SEOs claim special knowledge which they don't have, a good SEO can tell you how to modify your page containing real content to rank better. Meta tags, bolding keywords, proper titles, etc. can help a page appear higher in search engine results. It's not magic from no content. It's presentation of the same content in a way search engines would prefer.
