Don't talk about it much publicly. You never know what kind of people there are on the internet and what they could do once they figure out what company you're talking about. Now Slashdot, what are your suggestions to him?
Yes, I will lock the source including all the modifications that I make to it. Then I will only offer a binary, and no one will get the source for those modifications.
If you are droning on about Photoshop then you are a poser that has no clue what Photoshop is used for. It's a canned Lemming Troll for idiots with no real clue.
I do my professional work with Photoshop. I wouldn't say I'm an artist (artists don't paint with computers), but I have very professional use for it. Yet you say I have no clue what it is used for. Care to tell me what it's good for, then?
Just like with colocation and other hosting services. You have to trust someone though, and big cloud providers are required to be good at what they do. They're too big to fail.
I also prefer it as desktop OS, and not just for games. I use Linux on servers because that's where it shines best, but Linux in general either doesn't have the desktop programs I want or they're poor options. Like for example I love PHPEdit for editing php files, like I do with Visual Studio for.NET programs. Linux lacks compared to those, especially if you want to develop with C# or any other sane higher level language or for Windows. Another case is photo editing. There's both Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro along with several video editing programs and website designing programs like Artisteer. Those don't support Linux and there just isn't anything equivalent. Linux totally lacks on software catalog side of things. There just isn't any programs available.
Now that's a good support cycle, almost 10 years. How long Firefox has? At most a few months, but seeing their recent release cycle it looks like two weeks.
Wait, what now? So when it's about Android vulnerabilities it's "Faceplam. This just in: complex software has security vulnerabilities." and when it's about Windows vulnerabilities, Gates should get a death sentence and we should bomb half the planet to kill every human being has ever even touched Windows?
What about if I don't sell it, but give it away for free? I don't profit from it. Yet, I don't give away the source code like I'm supposed to. But as I donated directly to some Linux coders, that it makes it ok right?
If we go that route, then I could take Ubuntu and wrap it up in proprietary code. After that I donate to some Linux programmers who worked on some small part of it ("but Canonical just steals from the poor coders!") and it's justified!
Of course we can forget about the other people who worked on Ubuntu, just like we can forget about the other people who made that artists album happen.
Sadly, I don't think they will. That's always a good dream, but casual people will be okay with all this if it means they can continue watching their favorite TV shows, movies and listen to music. You really think they're going to drop watching their TV shows just because some heavy downloaders get billed more?
Not everyone is from US. We had our own magazines in our own language back when I was a kid. There was english PC Gamer too, but for obvious reasons it wasn't as popular. I don't really remember other english magazines that they sold, but there wasn't many.
I stopped ordering and reading them when internet became more mainstream and I guess so did many other people, as the magazines first changed to console-only and later just stopped making paper version.
It forces you to get to the point and not jabber endlessly. Learning to write in a way that is simple, short and well understood is important skill too. I can't stand people post walls of text, even if it would be interesting or intellect text. Whenever Slashdot shows that "Read the rest of this comment..." in bottom of a comment I
The poster? Just that it doesn't show your details on the page doesn't mean it makes you invulnerable to prosecution if you break the law. Even Slashdot saves the ip addresses of commenters and if you post something that breaks the law and police comes asking about it, they have to hand out the details. That is not going to ever change either.
Ah, perfect example here. As I posted this someone went and mod bombed my last comments and now my karma went to 1. Well, I kind of excepted that when making the comment:)
The conversation wasn't about Visual Studio, it was just about one of the examples, hence the dumping down to "kicks ass". I could go on and list why and features I like, what features other IDE's miss or have wrong, but that is completely not relevant to the discussion. It was a generalization, because it fitted.
Let's face it, the slashdot moderation system has been broken for a long time.
How can you know that, having a 2.5M uid?
Slashdot's moderation system, although hardly perfect, is still about a thousand times better than the trollfests that pass for commentary systems on 99% of the websites that allow visitor contributions.
I have an six digit UID, but along the way I just got bored of trying to fix my karma because some asses went raging and modded down all my comments, resulting in me posting at -1. Easier to just make new account.
If US would just let its citizen get high.
Hacking is hacking into remote targets. Cracking is cracking software on your local computer by reverse engineering and debugging it.

I paid for it myself. Like I said, I use it for work, so can pay too.

That's easy to fix, just reset the timer. We should change 0 to 2000 anyway, it's much better place for it than 1970.

Are you saying all gamers are idiots?

This is also why many people prefer Windows and Mac OSX. They want support and bug fixes.

Should we do the same with DRM software?
If we go that route, then I could take Ubuntu and wrap it up in proprietary code. After that I donate to some Linux programmers who worked on some small part of it ("but Canonical just steals from the poor coders!") and it's justified!

Actually, Firefox is the only one losing now. Even IE is just slightly gaining users.

Every user are given some amount of moderation points
Incorrect.
If they are on your friend lists, their moderation carries more value.
Only if that's what you specify in your preferences. I don't.
If they have moderated similarly to you, their moderation weights more to you.
I don't think I understand that sentence.
Incorrect how? I didn't state how the moderation system works currently. I stated how it should work. Read it again.

Reading comprehension. I stated how it is currently, not how it should be.
