When this kind of censorship becomes as easy as one librarian setting up a standard preference file for all of the software, we are entering dangerous waters.
Where do we draw the line? Should our kids be able to access provocative materials? Such as Kant, or Marx, or philosophy that is unpopular in our society? What about Free Software, after all, the educational system is getting a very big discount from Microsoft and Apple. It might offend them if we let these kids fill up the browser's cache with info on their competitors.
Yes, this is a bit ridiculous, but when we begin to censor material that a controlling minority chooses, what happens to all dissenting viewpoints? Is it even acceptable to censor material that the majority of people find distasteful?
I don't have the answers, but it disturbs me to see such widespread censorship there, of areas that are essential to being a U.S. citizen.
OK, This thing is cool. 8mb is even more excellent.
Why in heavens name didn't they do this in the first place? Palm OS is pretty decent, but their hardware is not advancing very quickly.
When are they going to produce one that has as much muscle as the ITSY? That seems to be the next really decent hardware platform. They need to lose the dragonball chip and throw in a coldfire, or strongarm chip that has some actual guts behind it.
I like the Palm PDAs and want to see them beat out the whine-doze CE PDAs, if for no other reason than useability and interoperability, but they are not doing themselves a favor sticking with such underpowered hardware.
How about this... remove the stupid paperclip/einstein/etc and make Linus Torvalds the helper for MS Office for Linux...
I would buy it just to here him explain why Office crashed...;-p

Come on people, stop flaming every writer they try to bring on board... It was a well written article, if a bit obtuse, and this guy would be a major addition to the/. stable. The more firepower that Rob adds to the page the more he is able to proselytize about Linux. I know that I started coming to the page because someone sent me an article that was just "fun" from here.
We need some variety, and his ideas are good. Give him a break. You can always get a personalized page that blocks his articles...
He had me till the remote viewing.
The ideas about net-reality are valid, but the "psycho-spiritual" junk about remote viewing is a bit out there.
