    I find this double thinking funny. If it would had been then everyone would had celebrated how brave and new Google is, but when it's Facebook it's obviously because they want money. People are sheep, but the ones thinking they're not such are just perfect example of ones...

    I must warn you. These $1-2 a month providers are huge crap. They have large downtime, huge abuse amounts, and sometimes they just disappear. But yeah, what can you expect for a few dollars a month. Less than what you would eat at McDonalds. If you want any kind of guarantee for your data, avoid them.

    Uh, transfer in and out of S3 is really costly. It's one of the reasons I didn't change my servers there. I would have for processing power and everything else, but the bandwidth is extremely costly.

    I wanted to come pitch in with my datacenter providers, but seems like he didn't need such. However, I still suggest you try FDCServers, if you have any kind of need for traffic for your art projects. If not, there are multiple cloud backup providers which should suit your need.

    On the other hand, when the tech guys from those companies do come on slashdot (admitting it, i'm sure lots of them browser anyway), the bitching they get is something unbelievable.

    For good example, see this story about MS open source programmers asking Slashdot's opinions on how to improve their Python IDE. It's full of hate, stupid comments and crap.

    I work for a public relations company that deals with large clients (can't say who) and I welcome this change. It should bring more interesting discussions to Slashdot. Those "omg astroturfer" guys heads are going to implode. :)

    The funny thing about DuckDuckGo is that it uses Bing, which most Slashdotters hate and say returns crap results. Still they happily tell everyone to use DuckDuckGo ;-)

    Opera has always offered the complete suite. There's Firefox and Chrome for you if you want that philosophy.

    What does it matter? If you don't want to use it, it never gets in the way. And no, it doesn't add to bloat either, Opera is really fast and lightweight. This means also their own "extensions" are since they're all coded by the same team and integrated. Of course, now a days there's real extensions too, so if you need something, you can install it really easily. And they don't break with every new version like with Firefox.

    I have to agree, Opera's developer tools are top-notch. I'm just making a program that needs to read DOM-tree from websites and it comes really handy - one click in the developer tools and it shows whole page as DOM-tree and exactly the information I need.

    Search engine deals like with Firefox, but also Opera is HUGE in mobile and embedded boxes. Their browser is in many of those hotel tv's and stuff like that (saw the Opera logo a few times when it was starting up)

    Just like Comic Central makes them IMing and emailing more fun by allowing to put funny smileys in them, and Bonzi Buddy helps you find stuff and does lots more!

    It's even more stupid that Google has started offering Chrome just the same way like every other adware vendor - by offering freeware and shareware authors, and the likes of Download.com, money per install they get. This leads to software authors and download sites bundling it with unrelated software and pushing it to users since they get paid for it. They always used to do this with their toolbar, but of course now they switched it to Chrome. I've seen people using Chrome and when asked why they changed, they had no idea. Either it came with some other software or "Google said on internet that you need to download this to make your browsing better" and they thought fine. No wonder they gained that 25% market share so quickly...

    Nuclear power is one of the less polluting ways to get energy out there. Yet they protest against it. Guess they would be more happy with coal plants. (I have no real life idea about the situation, but this is what I learned from SimCity)

    I wouldn't buy for references, code examples of such, but for higher level concepts. Game developing, DirectX and 3D stuff, maybe for some language as a whole. You get the whole package and it's consistent read. When problems come you can google, but it's not the same way when learning.

    Likewise I don't use any Microsoft cloud services or online Office. I only use desktop software because at least those keep my things private.

    We don't actually pay for cable access where I live. Or well, you can pay and get something like Canal+ and some foreign stations, but everyone mostly watches the free ad supported channels.

    And what's with the "conversing with your loved ones"? Don't you have the time to do that otherwise, or during watching something together? It's just boring to sit down and talk about something. I do that already when I go out eat with my girlfriend and it's enough.

    Because they do it from the url, just like Bing does. You know, what comes after &q= when you search.

    Yes, almost everyone watches TV. Even more so outside the geeks, but even most geeks download and watch their favorite TV shows.

    I don't watch much TV because I just don't have the time, but there's lots of good shows I'd like to watch. The Office, The Simpsons, Pan Am, How I Met Your Mother, Eureka, Conan, Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, Person of Interest, Chuck... And I haven't even checked the news shows. And those are on top of the one or two I watch from my own country.

    Then there's all of those on break, like Futurama and Californication... There's great amount of good shows to watch, so it isn't that.
