Um, no. The Old Testament was an oral tradition at the time of Jesus. The Christians were the first to write it down and compile a book. The later the Jews did the same. Which is why the Orthodox Christian (e.g. Catholic) Old testament contains more books than the Hebrew Bible.
Oh for Pete's sake... How much ignorance can there be?
The OLD Testament was in existence LONG before Christ was alive, IN WRITTEN FORM based on the existence of copies of the text and their content. FEW knowledgeable scholars would question the existence of the OT in largely it's current form in 30 AD. Tradition says the bulk of the OT was canonized by the Jewish people by 600 BC, with parts being translated into Greek as early as 300 BCE. So saying the OT was written AFTER Christ's life is largely unsupportable by facts. The content of the OT is unchanged from the Jewish scriptures, with only a few books which some believe should be included which are not historically part of the Jewish scripture. This was written by JEWS not Christians.
Now the NT WAS written after Christ's life, but was complete within the first 100 years with the writing of "The Revelation of John". The collection of books included in the NT was settled by about 200 AD/CE and although some have claimed to have "The lost gospel of..." from time to time, they are not properly included in the Bible. This part of the bible WAS written by Christians, many who where converted Jews and who referenced the OT extensively.
Because anything that differs from their dogma must be killed.
Not much different than christians a few hundred years ago. Not much different than the current christians tendency to ignore or call it satan's lies anything that differs from their views.
Ignorance.... Come on... A few THOUSAND years ago the Christian religion got hijacked by politics in an effort to control the masses, with very important and lasting results: The protestant reformation and The United States of America, the home of religious freedom. Like it or not, this country was populated by a bunch of generally CHRISTIAN European protestants who where trying to escape religious and political oppression. Eventually this oppression followed them here and as fate would have it, the USA was born.
The difference is most Christians shrugged their shoulders and ignored it
Ignored what? Look, I don't know what you think happened in the dark ages, but as much as I'd like to ignore it, so called "Christians" did some frightful things in the name of religion too. I don't think they did it necessarily for Christian reasons, but some used the religion to motivate folks into some really nasty behavior prior to the protestant reformation.
These days, there is little for Christians to ignore about history as there is little about known history that contradicts the Christian message. And not to put too fine a point on it, as a Christian I don't have to ignore anything so saying I do is incorrect.
As you say, lack of evidence has bupkis to do with people's faith. They believe despite the total lack of evidence, not because evidence exists.
This is generally not true... Yea, there are those who swallow anything... But for Christianity the evidence for it's truth does exist if you carefully consider what is being actually claimed.
There is an excellent book written back in the 80's by Josh McDowell where the question of the historical Jesus and the claims of Christianity are systematically evaluated from the considerable evidence we have. "Evidence that Demands a Verdict" was his first volume. He started very much the skeptic, and set forth to disprove this Christian thing once and for all. I think you might be surprised at how carefully he gathers and examines the facts and suggest you read it. You may not arrive at the same conclusion as Mr. McDowell but there is evidence, solid evidence. It may not be enough to convince you, but only the ignorant would claim there is no evidence.
Which really doesn't describe the modern Shroud of Turin very well.. The Shroud is like a sheet laid over a body and the image on it is of a whole body, where the linen clothes where strips of cloth wrapped around a body and the Napkin was over the face and head.
Where there are folks who disagree, but the Shroud is most likely NOT anything that was used in the actual burial, but is more likely to be some form of art or an image used to illustrate Biblical teaching in the dark ages. However, if folks find solace in believing otherwise, so be it. As long as they are not worshiping the image, it doesn't matter.
Or how the discovery of the Tomb of Jesus, which would appear to completely invalidate the ressurection and divine origin of Jesus, caused Christian worldwide to renounce their faith.
It only appears to do that if you assume it does. Where it may be the tomb of the family, there is no real way to know that for sure. If you assume it's the family, then there is little evidence that the body of the biblical Jesus is there. Most of the argument on this is based on how common the names found IN the tomb are and how likely the combination of names might find their way into a single tomb as a family. It also makes some assumptions about who is in the tomb, including the inclusion of Joseph, who seems to have died long before the public ministry of his son and would have not been buried in such an opulent tomb, being very poor. Even if there are questions raised, there really isn't any proof that this tomb held the body of the biblical Jesus.
But, if you want to believe that the gospel accounts are faked, one thing you cannot explain away is how the Apostles died, fully convinced that what they believed is true. Not to mention the whole host of evidence which is outlined in Josh McDowell's "Evidence that Demands a Verdict" work. Josh set out to prove all this hoopla about this Jesus guy was untrue. His conclusions are very interesting, and his facts very well researched.
So, no, this find does not invalidate the resurrection because there is no proof that the body in question is really there. Plus, how a body in a tomb would invalidate the divine origin of Jesus is beyond me, unless you where actually applying some theological theories that obviously you don't believe.
If you read or even browse the paper, all he really says is if you use newer components, they are more energy efficient. Which is like well, pretty much everything else on the damn planet.
I wonder... Do they take into account the resources necessary to BUILD these new components and scrap the old ones?
I read once that it's more environmentally friendly to keep using an old building, car, etc over having to scrap the old one and build a new one...
Wouldn't it be easier to TURN OFF the gaming computer when you're not using it?
Sure would.. How's this? Buy a board game and have fun that way.... Actually interacting with REAL people in real life might be a refreshing change of pace.. Besides, your mom would love the idea of you having friends over...
Amazon Prime isn't that bad of a selection, but like Netflix they have their limits to the free stuff. However, their "on demand" selection is really good if you can afford it.
Personally, I use prime for the other benefits, shipping, music, kindle lending library etc. The video streaming is mostly about doing "on demand" viewing, and it turns out to be cheaper than renting from Redbox, and a whole lot more convenient.
Sanders isn't left? Oh boy, that's a good one to this hard core right wing Tea Party guy... Sanders makes Clinton look like a republican, at least right now he does.
Seriously, we all need to be totally honest with ourselves and with each other and back off the partisan rhetoric. I fully recognize my perspective differs and take pains to understand what people like you are thinking before I open my big mouth, if for no other reason than to try to understand how you can justify your positions which are so so wrong.;)
I don't think you are centrist in reality. You want to be considered in the middle so you label yourself centrist, but in reality you really are far left, so everybody looks to far to the right from your prospective.
Seattle is governed by the fully left of center, so is Washington state to a lesser degree. You just see it as too far right because in reality you have a leftist ideology and are nowhere near the center on just about everything.
Be honest with yourself, you are really far left of what the center really is... Which is fine with me as long as you are honest about it...
That isn't too bad. You can download a 700 Mbyte movie in only ten hours. With my 56k modem (because stupid Comcast despite having the government-granted monopoly over most of Seattle, still doesn't offer service to their entire monopoly area), I can download that in 30 hours. That's not too bad. I can leave the download running while I'm at work and at night and then have two movies to watch over the weekend. I really do hope they add a download option.
So a DVD will take 10 hours and a Blu-Ray will take days to get... Go with the Netflix disk delivery option and it takes about three days to turn around ANY title they have, which is just about any title you could want, plus you can save that internet connection for something else, like browsing Zillo for houses OUTSIDE of Seattle that you can afford...
Netflix is becoming little better than my cable company
Yea? Well be ready to start some competition for them. As Netflix keeps positioning to take more of your money and give you access to less material, the business case for the competition gets better and better. You want to be there to take their subscribers once the scales are tipped in your favor, so you can have your turn, sell the company to investors and sit back in opulence while the bean counters and MBA's do the same thing to your company... Raise prices, lower content costs to make more money and eventually driving the customers to the next big thing...
I'll paraphrase, but here's basically what they said:
"Yes, we're losing MGM's movies - but soon we're going to give you a new Bill Murray Christmas movie! We think everyone can see how much better that is."
That's a blessing. This is the most pathetic series ever devised. It's not that it is a product aimed at teenagers - rather, it is a product aimed at braindead teenagers.
Yea, I'm not crying into my Wheaties over this loss, though my college Honor Student really likes these, she might not like it, though she has DVD and Blu-Ray copies of them so she's unlikely to care. I guess I'm taking exception to the "braindead" part... Well, that and I actually enjoyed each of the movies in the series the first time I saw them, so they have *some* value, just not enough I'd miss not being able to see them again.
Never going to happen, NEVER. No matter how many different services you sign up for. Seriously there is way too much stuff to do what you want and there are films which will never, ever see the light of internet streaming. For instance "Song of the South" which is owned by Disney will never be shown in public again for PC reasons, not to mention all the horrible "B and C" movies which would never deserve the disk space needed. (Who's going to watch "Howard the Duck" more than once? Most will quit that movie before the first reel change.) There is just way too much material which the license holder won't let go of and a whole host of stuff nobody wants to watch, even for free.
Looks like the netflix dvd model is coming around to be in vogue again.
I got to admit that I've been tempted to do the same. With Amazon having nearly *anything* I may want to stream NOW, and Netflix DVD being about 2 days away for me, it's starting to make sense again.
STFU, Python shill. Python has no place. Compiled languages are the ONLY way to go if you want to get any big boy work done.
BTW, this Python shill actually HATES Python for a number of structural reasons and I avoid it for most tasks. It doesn't seem to be the proper tool for the kind of work I generally do, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have its use. A good programmer has many tools and understands which ones to use for what task.
Yea, well with Verizon the differential between a bare internet connection to stream Netflix over and a full up cable service using a cable card network tuner is about $40/month. Netflix is nearly 1/3rd of that. Good luck saving money, the cable company is gona get their cut, even if you cut the cord.
Seriously 160 kbps connection? Dude, you need to subscribe to the "We will mail you the disk" part of Netflix and just forget this video streaming idea. Trust me, they can turn a disk around in the mail faster than you can download the movie..
She's been told no by a Wichita judge already for exactly the same records for another election back in 2013. Everybody knows this request will meet the same fate, including the Wichita State professor. So one must ask yourself WHY? Why would you ask the question, knowing the answer will likely be the same?
1. She's stupid enough to think that the judge will buy this "I'm asking for more data so I won't be able to identify individual's votes" theory. She doesn't know this to be true, nor does the judge. This is why the law says NO BALLOTS may be released, regardless of the terms. She's not this stupid, nor is the judge.. This request will be denied too.
2. She's being paid to do this by somebody and just wants their money. That somebody who is stupid enough to pay her (see #1) or has other motives (see #3).
3. She not really interested in research but is primarily making a partisan point full knowing that the "new" request will be denied on the exact same ground as her previous request was in 2013. The point here is to cause as much of a political fire storm as can be created, in hopes of fanning the flames of the partisans, especially those who are not paying attention to the history of this researcher's requests.
IMHO - Let her go get her records from other states as Kansas law prevents her from having what she wants. My guess is Kansas is NOT unique though and she knows her requests will meet similar fate no matter where she makes her request, that the point is to fan the flames of partisan discord and identity politics.
ATLAS - Automated Test Language and Stimulation, Looks like basic or Fortran but has only basic looping and variables. If you wanted to do any data processing you dropped into FORTRAN.
VULCAN - The Operating system/shell ATLAS ran on, which ran on an Harris H-100 computer. 128K of memory, 24 bit address buss with a whole board dedicated to the processor made of 7400 logic chips, and the size of your fridge with lots of flashing lights and thumb switches to 'program" stuff like where you'd like it to find the boot loader. 300Meg disk drive was the size of a washing machine, 10 Meg "removable" disk packs where 20" around.
DCL - Deck Command Language - VAX 11 scripting language, nice but clunky for doing any real processing.
JCL - Job control Language, it's not just on punch cards anymore..
CLIPS - Used to build expert systems.. Used by NASA in the Space Shuttle, makes you wonder why software didn't become a problem for the program.
K-Shell - Korn Shell, Heck of a way to run a Unix box..
AWK - Unix data extraction tool, It's just Awkward.
SED - Stream editor, companion to AWK, but really hard to follow.
YACC - Yet another Compiler Compiler, yep, you can make your own compiler with this thing...
RPN - Reverse Polish Notation, Programming using math primitives on a stack, you haven't lived.
Assembly - Yep, I've twiddled the bits directly on the processor, both by dropping into assembly from C and just coding directly in Assembly.
Every tool has it's place and Python is no different.
Does Python get used where it's not the best tool? Obviously. But it's a failing of the programmer/system engineer, not the tool. There is a lot of stuff a tool can do. You can flatten a 10" wide plank on both sides and make it perfectly square using a crescent wrench and insert a screw with a hammer, but you are either going to waste a lot of time, end up with substandard results, or both...
