    There is also a problem with sdl.c

    Based on my very limited knowlege of C, I think that sldGetRenderer is supposed to return a pointer, but it is trying to return an integer value from either simplerendererGetrenderer or swrendererGetRenderer.

    Or possibly something else.

    All of these can be fixed by commenting out the right lines in the rectangle.c, console.c and simplerender.c files.

    At least, the files compile; I'm not sure how well the program will actually work...

    The "files are also directories" feature is only on version 4.
    As I understand it, there will be no need to change userland programs at all to work with this feature. If you try to access something.ogg then you get the sound, if you type ls something.ogg/ then you get the metadata

    Do you think that maybe the people who hate intel are not the same ones who like Xeon HT processors?

    Just because it appears that a majority of slashdot readers think one way sometimes, more than likely it just means that the other 90% don't care enough to comment.

    I'd only do it if the power supply was supporting more than say 15-20 computers. I certainly wouldn't do it for a single computer, but I might for a whole houseful.

    50 amps is a whole hell of a lot to be pushing through a long wire.

    That all depends on your perspective. I work on an electrical distribution system where the total amount of current flowing at any given time could be between 3000-4000 amps.

    If you use a sufficient diamater wire and make good electrical connections, I don't see why you couldn't get wire resistance down to .001 ohm.

    You could do that, or a slightly cheaper solution is to use an ion exchanger to keep the water pure, and control the pH of the water. If you keep the pH basic (somewhere between 10 and 11) you'll get less corrosion.

    Actually, voltage is not the same as potential. Voltage refers to a difference in potential between two points... but I'm just nitpicking :)

    I use copper tubing in my system, but instead of brazing I used compression fittings. They are more reliable over time and easier to install.

    Actually, you don't want the water to go below the dew point. Depending on the humidity, the water can be cooler than room temperature without forming condensation.

    If you watercool everything that make a signifigant amount of heat (CPU, power supply, HD, video card and motherboard) than you don't need airflow in the case.

    Why go to all the trouble of submerging your computer? It looks like you could just replace the water in your system with HFE-7100. If only it wasn't so expensive...

    I think that the flourocarbon fluids mentioned in prevous posts would be your best bet.

    I've toyed with the idea of using alcohol for corrosion reasons, but never got around to trying it yet.

    Water that you pump through any system with copper and/or aluminium components isn't going to stay non-conductive for very long. If you don't have some type of purification, the ions will build up as the components corrode.

    Yes Chernobyl is bad, but even so the environmental impact of nuclear power as a whole is insignifigant when compared to that of fossil fuels.

    I might be an exception, but for me buying a portable DVD player was the best investment I made since I got stationed on a submarine. Mostly because I don't have enough room to lie in bed and fully open up a laptop screen, also because battery life is not an issue since I never have enough free time to watch more than one movie at a time anyway.

    You are comparing apples and oranges. You are talking about 2048 bit symmetric key vs a 128 bit symmetric key.

    Public key systems (such as PGP/GPG) use an asymmetric public key (2048 bit) to encrypt a symmetric session key (128 bit).

    In any case, you can't compare the time needed to crack a asymmetric key to that of a symmetric key, since they are completely different types.

    spamassassin uses a bunch of common spam charastics and assigns each a score. If the score is high enough, it flags it as spam. Here's an example:

    Content analysis details: (18.60 hits, 5 required)
    X_LIST_UNSUBSCRIBE (1.2 points) Message has X-List-Unsubscribe header
    MIME_BOUND_DASH_DIGIT (1.0 points) Spam tool pattern in MIME boundary
    FROM_ENDS_IN_NUMS (0.9 points) From: ends in numbers

    There is a new method now that called Bayesian filtering that used statistical analysis of bodies of spam and non-spam messages to detirmine the probability of a message being spam based on what words appear in it. This is one of the most promising methods, since it learns over time.

    30375kilobytes/second=29.66megabytes/second

    29.66megabytes/second=104.3gigabytes/hour

    These calculations are for raw video data with no overhead. Still, you should be able to get more than 90 minutes of uncompressed video on a terabyte, unless you are using huge resolutions.

    For kids under five, you just don't know. And for older kids, even if your kids are the best, they have friends. Your kid drops a comment, his friend gets out the gun, says, "Cool!" and uh...

    It is true that when children are that young you can't be sure that they can understand, my parents solution to this was supervision. My mother was a full time homemaker and there was never any time that I was unsupervised at that age. As far as friends, before we were allowed to have a friend over my parents met with the other kid's parents. It was never really an issue because by the age that we were having friends over and weren't constantly supervised, we were responsible enough not to let this happen.
