Always good to see Patrick is still doing his thing;)
And I still have a Slackware file-server because...it's simple.
25 years already? I'm definitely getting old.
I too have been very happy with Linode. Currently I manage about a dozen Linodes for various clients and the performance and support have exceeded my expectations by a long-shot. On occasion when there was a minor problem, Linode support staff contacted me quickly with instructions and pointers to documentation for handling the issues. Performance is much better than what you might expect by using the memory/disk-space metrics for each server plan. Linode support is excellent. The Linode Library has the best documentation, they have how-to docs for most common projects and they are updated regularly and the commentary is also very helpful. And dont forget the forums - if you're having an issue or need to figure out how to do something - most likely someone has written about it in the forums. You can extract some very valuable information for troubleshooting and project planning in the forums. And last but not least - the IRC channel is staffed by Linode support personnel and lots of really helpful volunteers. The community is awesome and friendly and helpful to-boot. Linode's got my vote and my continued business.
dude - No where in my post did I even mention pipes... No where in my post do I imply that Unix admins can "adequately perform the job of a knowledgeable Windows Amin"
Still you rant on and on about off topic bullshit. STFU.
### This is the best analogy I've seen in a while. Mod this up+
Hopefully this can help shed some lite for some of the GUI addicted PFY's out there missing out on a decent tool kit 'cause their OS of choice doesn't have a shell or basic programming (Pun Intended) facility.
oh...yeah.
After the way Wind River strung Patrick & Co. along for nearly a year before cutting them loose, seriously stalling his meticulous development efforts, I can't possibly support anything this company puts its grubby little hands into.
Screw them.
I doubt this effort is going to improve their rapport in the Linux community anyway. Imagine...taking one of the finest and most stable Linux distros avail and tossing them out on their asses to fend for themselves...and then deciding 2 years later that it might have been a mistake.
Even if Patrick sprinkled this with Holy Water.....I'd never feel comfortable doing business with such short-sightedness.
Again...screw them.
WOw!
that is one strange-assed neighborhood.
Kinda borderline-social engineering if you ask me.
How do you and your neighbors keep from killing one another? Huge bon-fire ladden block parties?
Seems weird...but I'll bet Halloween is a real hoot for the kids!
Take the offer.
You and anyone else in the world, can only do so much in a day.
If your falling down with your new set of responsibilities.....then you will either be replaced and demoted....or let go altogether.
If you can manage to NOT let the stress bother you.....then you will at least have a spiffier resume and a pay increase to work with while your looking for another job.
I have found that todays management structure has NO FUCKING CLUE about how to deal with IT people. We are like no other class of worker they have ever had to deal with in the past....and therefore...they are not really suprised when we make strange demands.
As an IT manager for a small distributorship...I am the whole MIS deptartment....chief, cook and bottlewasher. I am understaffed....underpaid...and overworked. But I have the run of the mill and management rearely argues with me or denies me what I need to get an individual task completed. A lot of things fall through the cracks in my shop....but I always turn to management and explain to them how ignorant they are...and they walk away with their tails between their legs.
Its a beatiful world.
Good Luck.

No sysadmin worth his salt uses EMACS.

Don't you have a bridge you need to get back to? ;)

THIS!
But Org is only good if you are already a fluent emacs user, the vi-crowd need not apply.
It takes some getting used to but it is very handy.
as an aside - I had not seen that video before.
Thanks for posting.
