I think it was less "Congratulations to you" and more "Let them eat cake"...

  2. More than two "sides" on Both Parties Ignore the Facts · · Score: 3, Informative

First of all, there are way more than two political parties. Thus, there are way more than two "sides", which most people ignorantly arguing politics fail to realize/acknowledge.

Second, the adversarial system is what's crushing the efficacy of our political system. With two major parties that have passed a great deal of legislation to keep it exclusively two major parties, we've set up a system that "us" vs. "them". The main problem with that is at any given point in time, about half of the people involved want the system to fail, so they can get their people in office. Democrats want Bush to fail just as much as Republicans wanted Clinton to fail (speaking in generalities, of course).

Both parties scream bloody murder at each other in order to scare people in to voting for them, if for no other reason than to make sure "the other side" doesn't win. Take any major issue in the past 20-30 years and measure as objectively as possible the change since the beginning of the issue. Have abortion rights changed significantly since Roe vs. Wade? No. Has Social Security collapsed? No. Have taxes gone up under both Republican and Democratic supervision? Yes.

For all of their shouting about the "crisis" of this or that, we're just fine. To the average American in their routine life, not a whole lot has changed as a result of any political action.

So stop shouting about how "they" are going to ruin everything, and start figuring out how to work with whoever IS in office to help them make the best choices.

  3. The holy grail for Sidekick-Mac synchronization on Mac Sync Finally Comes to the Danger SideKick · · Score: 4, Informative

Synchronization is the one feature that kept the Sidekick from being a just-about-perfect device. I switched from a SonyEricsson P800 to the Sidekick and it was painful not to have synchronization.

I just downloaded and ran this program, and it works like a charm. It's even easier than syncing the P800 because I don't have to fool around with the Bluetooth connection. I only need an internet connection.

    It's well worth the $30.

  4. Re:Can these be hacked? on NYT on RFID Tags · · Score: 1

The transmitters only work within a range of several feet. Take for example (as another poster pointed out) driving through a toll booth without stopping because you have their RFID tag. You are not more than 10 or 15 feet away from the transmitter in that instance.

I don't think you'll be able to use them much further away because of the way the technology works: RFID tags are passive transmitters, when they receive a radio signal on a certain frequency, they use the electricity generated by that signal to return a unique ID number. Therefore, in order to read the tag from 400 feet away, you'll need a *really* powerful transmitter, and even at that it's questionable as to whether or not the tag would be able to handle the power.

As for war RFID driving, good luck. You technically should be able to read the RFID tags given that you drive close enough to their trash cans, but all you'll get is a list of unique numbers. How will you identify that a certain number goes to a certain product? There is no public database of this sort, for good reason. Privacy is a concern for consumers and manufacturers alike. Consumers obviously value their privacy, and manufacturers don't want their competitors to be able to target marketing at only the people using their products. Including dildos. ;-)
