States are not allowed to make laws that contradict the constitution. Not even the US supreme court is allowed to. Under the constitution, you as a US citizen are allowed to bare arms, meaning getting a concealed weapons permit is also null and void. If someone breaks into your house you can shoot them and have the US constitution back you up, but it still won't help you until a really high appeal;-)
There's so many people who don't care about their constitutional rights getting blatently stolen from them.
I'm afriad way to many people think of AGP as a totally different bus than PCI. Once PCI goes mainstream we'll just see something like AGP 40x (like cdrom drives) As a matter of fact, I belive a 4x agp port is capable of more speed than 6.6GBps. Still this helps.
Linux isn't to hard for me, I'm not average joe. I did find somethings from linux that are somewhat usefull on windows, but nearly all of them are GNU projects, and thus they wouldn't be around if linux wasn't.
that is a testament to windows.
Why? Windows doesn't have any real documentation, and if the only way I could find this information was to use Linux, or linux sites, somthings really messed up.
The upgrade issue is realistic, but consider what you "really" need to run OSX
This is totally unclear, but what I understand you saying is that everyone needs to run OSX. This obviously wouldn't work, because they're prices are ludicuous, and it doesn't allow near the flexibility that linux does. Sure it's UNIX, but you won't get it to install over a network.
My origional target was unclear, I admit. What I am saying is that the multi-userness of XP will end up making it harder than UNIX anyway, so why shell out $200 for something that's sluggish, and hardware-requiring. Most likely people will end up spending more money upgrading their machine that work work fine on Linux, than the actual cost of windows XP. XP will come out late, Gnome 2 won't.
Perhaps it's their attitude we're steered away from, or maybe it's because we like Athlons. The truth is, the G4 is a old platform, but so is a PIII (you said PII, but nevermind). It so happens that apple only posts tests on Intels, and only tests on photoshop - which is optimized for macos.
I said attitude... Maybe a G4 really is the best thing scince the microchip, but even if it is, it's not Apple's doing. They need to emphisize that. It's a very similar attitude that microsoft takes... 'you do the works, we'll steal it, and get all the credit.' Truth is, Apple isn't a stable company right now, they're way to dependent, on IBM (for PPC processors), and on NVidia (for releasing video cards first).
Perhaps apple is the best for content creation, on the low level, but SGI's are running lower costs now (used machines), and these things run for 3 months uptime overclocked! In fact, on the "max uptime" list on netcraft (which doesn't truely reflect acutal computer uptime, just site uptime) Irix trails Freebsd only. Maybe it's not a coincidence that AOL uses IRIX on their servers.
The fact is, that most people know so little about windows, they wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you just make linux look like it (and run aol). In my personal estimation, someone just starting with computers... I.e. a 7 year old will find linux easier to learn than he will windows. I know a lot more about linux in these last 1.6 years than I knew about windows in 3 years.
Windows XP won't run on Joe's computer, meaning he's going to either have to go to the local computer store, and have them upgrade it for somewhere in the $200 range, plus the cost of windows xp, which he won't be able to figure out either, or he can buy a new machine and chunk out $1500. Price is a major consideration for people who aren't really into computers.
Fortunatly I don't suffer from the same disorder... actually I think it's normal, that's why all the dumb teachers want you to "pay attention" when you already are. (Not to mention taking notes!)
FreeBSD is a great Server OS because you don't need a mouse on a server, but those of us with desktops need ps2 mouse support... you can't expect someone to recompile the kernel on their first day. Though I was amazed with the speed.
RPM more stable than apt-get... I haven't tried apt-get, but RPM is definatly the worst packaging system I have tried. If you are looking to compare package systems you really shouldn't ignore the best. check out pkgtool (get slackware). I found RPM to be the stupidest part of redhat.
Alein, you can find it on freshmeat.net, will convert from redhat to debian, slackware to debian, debian to redhat, slackware to redhat, slackware to debian and slackware to redhat:-) -- a pretty awesome util if you ask me.
I got a 56k, several of them actually still consistantly the fastest I can connect is 26.4k! though frequently I get 24k this is a disgrace. BOMB THE FCC! Those idoits think they can get away with tyranny... they are limiting my ability for free speech (it don't work at 26.4) T3's to the masses or bust! think about it, a T3 shouldn't cost $700/month. It should cost $50. modems should be at 200-300kbps by now, it's a plot by the Cable companies, but please bomb the fcc anyway
Wrong, Science is the search for DATA. Philosophy is the search for truth, but Religion is not superstition. Take for example Atheism some people who are Atheists say Religion: None. That is incorrect, Atheists say there is no God, however to say that something does NOT exist you must be in all places at all times and be able to see everything. there's a problem with that... that would make you god. Therefore Atheists cannot belive their "Religion" therefore it is not a Philosophy. Religion simply differs with Philosophy in that noone belives that more than one religion is correct. Religion is better described as "A way of Life" than superstition. Everyone has a Religion, just like everybody has an operating system (even BIOS is a simple operating system).
This is something caused by a lot of things. People won't hire you if you are under 20, I'm 15, so even the places that don't descriminate against age won't hire:-(
It's a whole Idea caused by the lack of childrens rights, it starts with children getting no form of representation, Parents should get more votes if they have more children.
Why? because I'm sure it happens everywhere similarly, down in florida the Motorcylclists don't have to wear helmets because they are adults, but kids riding bikes have to wear them! how idiotic.
Younger politions. Age doesn't ever definatly bring experience, and it shows, we need to cut that junk about not being president until you are 35, it's stupid. You can't get on the ballot automatically anyway, so why descrimiate against kids even? if the nation thinks a 12 year old can run the country he ought to be able to be elected.
Abortion? it should be illegal, it infers that women have more rights then men, and children. Why should only women be allowed to kill babies? LET THE KID CHOOSE!!
I think we will find this phase out, as we, the geek generation gets older and we respect people younger than ourselves (My 2 year old brother likes afterstep):-)
IE 5 walks all over mosaic 1.0 that's it.
Netscape 3 is still faster than IE 5 and, Netscape 6.1 (mozilla 0.9.2) just blows the IE out of IE.
Netscape won the browser war, and they still have it won if you don't count AOL.
This just isn't fair! I can't type!! oh wait. I just did.
