  1. Re:what's wrong? on Feds Undertaking Massive Passenger Profiling Plan · · Score: 1
If some agency only has the resources to check one of two people, one is an Arab man in his mid-twenties with a one way ticket and the other is an elderly black women on the return leg of a round trip, it's just good sense to check the young man. If they had the time and resources they could and should check both, but with limited options you go with the probabilities. No eldery black women have blown up anything big recently, sorry.

Mid-August of last year, I booked a one way ticket to England at the last minute (3 days before my date of departure). My fiance and I had decided to spend a large bit of time together (nearly 6 months) in his home country of England, and found it to be better for us to just book one way, as it was more flexible on when i/we returned back to the U.S. When I got to the airport, I was given notice that I had triggered an FAA red flag (mid twenties woman, one way ticket, booked on short notice) and would be searched. So, I opened my suitcase, let em have a looksee at my lacy red lingerie, they passed me through the metal detectors and I was off, and not terribly bothered about the whole thing. The problem is, however, that with all the talking that's being done about profiling, terrorists are going to see what sets off the flags and stop doing it. They'll book round trip tickets well in advance. Then what?

  2. Geekess or Valley Girl? on Ask Wil Wheaton Anything · · Score: 5, Funny

As a lifelong geekess whose first crush was on Wesley Crusher, here's a question I'd love answered by Wil Wheaton, as well as the general male slashdot population. Which would Wesley Crusher, in character, prefer? An attractive, yet slightly braindead, clothes/hair/nails oriented girl, or her equally attractive, intelligent geekess identical twin sister? Someone who can't carry on a conversation unless it involves who was seen where, with whom, and what each was wearing, or somone who can argue the pros and cons of which programming language suits a certain task best? What about you as a person?

Aren't most professional business people strategists when it comes right down to it? Should I buy this stock or sell this one? How should I promote this product? Will it appeal to my target consumer group? Oh, and isn't day to day business a bit like a war simulation? Take out your opponents before they can take you out >;) Imho, any strategy game will do as long as it requires some foresight. ~Dyrandia

Iirc, and I think I do, the game where you section off an area by drawing boxes and avoiding the spinning lines is called Qix and was available for the original black and white gameboy in the late 1980s. The original poster wasn't particularly specific as to whether or not he wanted a fairly steep learning curve or not. Qix is easy to learn, but requires a good bit of dexterity and planning. A good choice! ~Dyrandia
