After all, we're, that is, america (sorry for the inclusive) is allegedly based on individualism, if we want our rights as individuals we can't complain when we're pricked out by those same qualities we covet and laud. I guess we have to learn to be responsible for ourselves and live up to whatever we say or do, wherever that is
But.. you could easily look at this another way. This system would also strip you of your individuality the same way a standardized test or survey form strips you of individuality. It records and files your individuality and spits you out.
My opinion is, if I'm being used for marketing research I should be compensated for it. Isn't that the main reason everyone gets pissed about this stuff (For example, Spam). We don't get pissed about spam snail-mail cuz it costs them money and we get cheaper postage rates. This doesn't benefit the consumer directly in any way, plus we don't have any choice in the matter. Therefore it's not something I'm looking forward to.
>"Microsuck" and Bill Gates only as "Herr William the Conqueror, Purveyor of Truth to the Unbelieving"
Are you kidding? "Suck", "Purveyor", and "Conqueror" all in one sentence? Sales would improve tenfold.
Won't Clinton be bummed when Microsuck doesn't live up to its name.
Normally I'd be on your side, but they used this as an excuse to include spam. The second paragraph is pure spam, and I'd have to say the nature of the email seemed to be spam because it had more advertising than it did content. A business relationship email should not include any promotional material IMO. Even account-oriented material is borderline.
Maybe that's why she only got $50 instead of $500? There was spam, but it was also valuable information to the customer.
If what you did contained a lengthy advertisement inside it, I'd say what you did was wrong. If not, I'd say it wasn't:)
It's National INTEREST. Unfortunately, the world is in a state of anarchy with every country out for itself. There's no "Daddy" to discipline the bad countries and reward the good ones. The only solution to this is a world government, and don't expect one anytime soon.
It mainly depends on your beliefs, if you like the system or not. I see the logic behind the duality of morals theories (Go read some Thucydides). And actually like them. Moral actions are for the individual. The state's only responsibility is to look after the well being of its own citizens.
If you disagree with me, go form a world government that works.:P
Jedi is pretty damn close to Transcendentalism, except Emerson and Thoreau couldn't raise their starfighter out of Walden's Pond
You ask them what they want, and then give them more than they asked for.
I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts what they'd want is for us to get the hell out.
