That's like taxing lightbulbs in order to compensate lantern and candle manufactures who failed to modify their business models when the electric light was invented. Absolutly ridiculous!
"The business model where by music makes large amounts of money is dying."
I agree with you but the wording of that statement is too generic. Music can still make lots of money through different channels like the ones you mentioned.
The music industry has depended on the limits of technology for far too long. In this day and age it is easy to make exact copies of digital media. This was not the case a few years ago when all you could get was analog media (LPs, tapes, etc). Part of the incentive in buying the original media, besides the artwork and a general sense that you are helping the artist financially (yeah, right), was due to the fact that a copy would be of lower quality. A CD copied onto analog tape loses some quality for instance.
I'm sure all the Linux freaks will be into this. They're usually opposed to anything prettier than a CL. Maybe it's because they hate M$ sooo much, boo-hoo. It's hard to tell.

I'd rather do it all my self.

Mob Software

I've been on several software development "teams" during my career. All of the so-called "organized" and "carefully coordinated" projects have disintigrated into "mob style" coding. It may have taken a little longer, but I would've rather taken on all of these projects on my own. Alas, management always come up with some ridiculous deadline sigh...
Small teams, if not individuals, write the best software, hands down.
"Microsoft will only get better and better at it, the general public will only grow more and more confident with their fight, and less and less exploits will be discovered."
IMO, this isn't a bad thing. It's really a "catch 22" your talking about here, isn't it? MS, over time, churns out an OS that is more secure than the rest and as a result becomes the OS of choice. Not likely.
I don't believe this would lead to a "Monoclonal OS prevalence" on the internet because people do learn from other peoples mistakes. That's what places like this, this and, this are for.
Pure FUD! AOL and MSN ... Ha, big deal!

"At a certain point, the studios and labels and publishers will send over lists of things to block to America Online, and 40 percent of the country's Net users will no longer be able to participate in Gnutella. Do the same thing for EarthLink and MSN, and you're drastically shrinking the pool of available users."
So what? This sounds like a plus to me! Personally, I think the net would be a greater place if there weren't so many damn fool AOLers and their likes. Shit! Opening "infected" emails, getting swindled by obvious SPAM, getting on SPAM lists in the first place, unwittingly running unpatched instances of IIS, inbreeding, child-molestation, wife abuse, child porn addicts, fanatical Christians, ahem, trailer-trash republicans, and the list goes on and on! FUCK'EM, we'd be better off without'em anyhow!
Also, the net should be hard to access in the first place! None of this cushy ISP, GUI browser crap! What is this, cable TV or something? Command-line only! Hard and convoluted, that's the way we like it! Right guys? Anyone? Hello?

Scary thing is that many will get bitten. Doesn't your company have a marketing department?:)
The quote is a little mis-leading. I think it means you can't use MS stuff like MSN messenger without a passport. You can still ICQ net via your own ISP no doubt. --
Hmm, either you don't have a clue or you're from some dimension where the command prompt has a future.
I have a feeling it's gonna get a litte hot around here...;) --
Um, yeah, probably time for a new one!
The movie and record industries have a business model that hasn't changed since it's inception. They basically made money off of the fact that people couldn't get their hands on content in an efficient and reliable way. Anything that was obtained had to come fro them. Now that this has changed they cry about it. "How are we gonna make our millions now? Now that we can't rely on the disparity of people?" boo-hoo.
I say fuck that! If content is good then the people who made it will receive everything they deserve! Take a band like Radiohead - they give their stuff away for free! They are a content provider that is confidant in the fact that they will get what they deserve because they make a quality product. People will buy their album for its artistic value if not anything else.
The record industry makes most of its money by tricking people into buying crap and hoping they won't return it cuz all but one of the songs on the album suck ass!
Just my two bucks worth.
Pizza! Oh, I forgot we ordered a pizza! And I have no money to pay for it! But maybe I have something else you want...
Well mam, let me enter your home and sit casually on your couch while you show me what that may be...

Yes, I Agree. Unfortunatly, it isn't available on all DVD's.
Surprisingly, you'll find that the most effective ads are also the most annoying ones.
Ever stop to consider that they may be in the pockets of those who would like to see MS go down?
