  1. Re:Great, what to do with a cable modem??? on Free Cable Modem From The Shack · · Score: 1

Add a large order of rydeline to that order.

  2. Yipes... on Eye-based Navigation Research From IBM · · Score: 1

K, what scares me is the fact that development for cars was made mention of.. K, nice feature, sure it will come in handy, but I for one, hope that feature never makes it to cars or any kind of public vehicle.

Why? Because computers don't come with 100% uptime guarantee's. Sure, that thing will work great for a certain amount of time, but like a home or office computer, it's going to go weird on you and or crash. And if I am assuming correctly, if this MAGIC computer system is used in automobiles to aid a driver in steering or moving that vehicle, then I am selling my car and getting a bike.. California freeways are already crazy enough.

  3. People are not ready... on ESR: Microsoft Could Collapse In 6 Months (updated) · · Score: 1

6 Months? I'd say 6 years instead. Simply because people are just not ready to take on something like linux. I see PC and Mac users who are fairly advanced users, have problems even getting their modems to work in a linux distro. And now someone is saying that in 6 months M$ is going to go down in a ball of flames? I'm sorry, that's too much wishful thinking for this guy.

And even if Gates' Pony took a nose dive, a majority of people whould still sit on their Win-Boxes because it does set them up with all of what they want their computers for which is internet, e-mail, web, music, and games. And Linux, on certain configurations, will do this, but the percentage of people getting all their devices installed is still a very low percentage compared to MS-Windows.

Hate to play the ms-fan here, I really am not a fan of it, but I keep in mind my family and their friends who are all pretty much newbies to computers, and remembering all the calls I get usually about 'What is this? Is this good? How do I get it to stop doing this?' and that's on WinBoxes, now I imagine the headaches with linux in place of Windows, and I get my answer of 'People are not ready...yet.'

  4. SCINI: Dune (Part 1) on Dune Miniseries Airs Tonight · · Score: 1

I don't know if it is because I am used to the original movie or what. I have skimmed the Novel (Dune, not the offshoots or continuances.) But I sat here tonight either going 'Oh' or 'Whaa?'. I don't think the series (Maybe I should wait till I've seen all three parts.) should have gotten all the hype it has recieved.

So maybe w/ the Hype, The skimming of the original book, and the love of the original movie, maybe this is why I think part one of this remake just sucked big time. I felt like I was watching a futuristic Gone with the Wind (Which also bores the hell outta me.)

Nice effects, Nice casting of Duke Lito, but everything else (From the new plot changes and deviants from the original.) to the Boring cast (including Paul.) just leaves me wondering if I should even bother trying to catch part 2.

  5. What do they hope to gain? on NASA To Contact Its Oldest Spacecraft · · Score: 2

This vehicle, in particular, was launched 35 years ago. It has the computing power equivilant of a c64 (If I gauge that correctly.), and NASA wants to contact it now? Was it not good enough in 1990? *sniff* *sniff* do I smell publicity stunt? Now, not to flame NASA in general, but contacting a ship that has been pretty much written off as a 'Rock' hurdling through space, I just do not get what NASA hopes to gain. 'Yea! It's still talking! Ok, shut down the equipment, we will meet back here in another 20 years.' It's like trying to contact an ex-girlfriend. You might get ahold of her, but chances are, it's not going to be a meaningful conversation.
