The reasons make sense to me.

But I think these people are imbeciles. They're so concerned about people copying their precious games that they want to screw over the customers in an effort to stop them. To me, this is just like draconian legislation that is intended to stop criminals, but ends up taking away the rights of innocents. On a smaller scale, maybe, but the "harm innocents to stop criminals" mentality is present in both situations.

Not really. You use the basics in life regardless of what you do (likely).

Anecdotal evidence, but I know many, many people who were forcibly taught things such as geometry that do not use it and have forgotten everything about it because of that.

I can't justify forcing people to take years of classes just to help them memorize the basics. It sounds more like it's appealing to the lowest common denominator.

What's even worse is that the DMCA basically forces a guilty until proven innocent mentality upon you. Either remove the content and let the uploader dispute the claim, or the safe harbor no longer applies.

What's even worse is that some people think that piracy (something I can't see anyone believing is worse than jaywalking) is so bad that we need draconian, rights-violating legislation to combat it (it won't work, either).

Some artists even support SOPA. And if you're not an artist yourself, I've seen them say, "You're not an artist! Therefore, your criticism is invalid!" as if you must be an artist to reject draconian laws that will affect everyone. This mentality of dismissing all criticism because someone isn't in the same group as you (content makers) is retarded.
