Ah, but you see, Microsoft has mainted that their browser isn't unique MS branded "internet explorer" software, but is instead just a tool that is part of the overall Windows OS. If it was truly only a tool, it should not be pushing on its user an ISP (see a few posts up). Your point about it being okay would only hold if MS agreed that the Internet Explorer is more of a unique entity than they say. Sadly, they don't.

If everyone did this society might very well degrade to the point where people were worrying about many more basic issues than this type of legislation-the sharp knife control you support isn't the most effective means of effecting change that can be used.

I couldn't agree more with this. Even though I've never personally owned a dreamcast, playing some of the games (Soul Calibur especially) has been a great experience. It's a real shame that the console lost ground to an inferior system like the PS2. Are people buying a console now because it is fun and looks good, or are they buying them because adds tell them they're fun and will make them look good? A shame.

I think your point here is one that biologists are still debating, whether evolution naturally leads to intelligence. I think there are convincing arguments both for and against the issue; SETI's use of an optimistic number in the equation might irritate those with the opposite viewpoint, but can't yet be disproved. Until that happens, I'm fine with letting them put reasonable numbers in as they wish.

How can you write that the poster was being intolerant of other people's beliefs, and in the same post, write that that same poster "...must understand that religion supersedes[sic]science..."? Why does he have to believe that religion supercedes science?
It seems to me that instead of promoting understanding, your post seeks to force a belief system upon another.

Is it really a "new" color if trichromats can see it? The way I understood the tetrachromat article, they are able to distinguish between some wavelengths of light that trichromats can't. I don't see how this "new" color is really new at all if trichromats, as well as tetrachromats, are also able to distinguish it as being a different wavelength.

The Pleiades, like many of the stars and constellations, trace their history back to Ancient Greek Culture-not, as you imply to any particular culture that survives today. If you look at http://www.ras.ucalgary.ca/~gibson/pleiades/pleiad es_myth.html for example, you will see that the legends surrounding the seven sisters indeed originated in Ancient Greek Society. It was this tradition that I was referring to, in particular that the possibility exists that Subaru changed historical legend to fit a corporate logo.

"When you look closely you see the six stars" Aren't they also known as the seven sisters? Although the pleiades are a cluster of many stars, they were known for the seven brightest stars, not the six. It sounds as though Subaru changed the history to fit their logo

What is the point of finding all of these galaxies? I mean, what do we gain from it? Do we derive any tangible benefit from this line of research?
Viewing galaxies so far from us means we are able to look back in time, theoretically to the point at the Universe's creation. Such research increases our understanding about the formation of the Universe, a question worthy of our attention as a civilization.

  12. Re:Good for the country on Florida Election Votes Certified · · Score: 1

There may very well be enough support after this election to do away with the electoral college, despite the fact that it is supported by the two party system. Both parties would win since the Nation and the World find the system to be old, outdated, and not democratic. The party that leads the charge to do away with it could pick up votes in the process for the next election-that alone is enough of a reason to try it.
