Most plasmas have negative index of refraction for radio frequency waves. The index of refraction only gives the ratio of the phase velocity relative to the speed of light, but informaion is transmitted at the group velocity, which can never be greater then the speed of light.
Newtonian mechanics works fine for pool balls, its only in the limits that things become very small (Quantum Mechanics) or very highly energetic (Special relativity) that it's not accurate any more
Sony obviously wouldn't want people to be able to play CD-R, because they could be ilegal copies. Remeber that Sony doesn't just make hardware, they also own a large record company
