The best thing for you to do is to improve your language skills.
I'm 31 and have been working in Tokyo for about 9 years now. I'm not completely fluent, but I got a job as a translator and I make about $75,000 US. I don't even have a degree! But I studied and made myself as useful as possible to my company. I do everything, translating, programming, network admin, web developer, and whatever else.
And not just the language, I think its better to open yourself to more fields. Companies will pay more for a person with a broader range of skills. Also, if you make yourself indispensible by being the only one who knows how things work, they will pay you more to stay.
Let's just screw the "microsoft is a patent holding monger that will some day come back and screw us" discussion, and think about things in perspective. Microsoft holds patents and Sun holds patents, I really do not see the difference in the two. I know that microsoft has the bad reputation but that is not the question at hand. Who's to say that sun could not do the same thing that microsoft could. The question is not patents and lawsuits, this is a question of which development platform would be better. Which really boils down to which is the easiest platform for you to develop with and not which platform is better for the customer. A matter of taste, so there is no real answer.
I have to agree with you. I myself, bought an Ipod and loved it. Then I thought, well if the music player is this good, how is the OS. When it comes to Apple, you have to buy the machinery to use the OS, so I talked my boss into buying a G4 (you know, for research). Then I thought, this is great too and bought one for home too. And I'm still glad I did. That's almost $5,000 in sales as a result of the Ipod, not including all the new software I bought. So I would assume Jobs is doing something right. Just recently, I read that they finally paid off their debts and are making money. I don't think the apple is dying, I say look out world, here comes the rebirth of Apple!!
Do you think one person could respond to everything? Give the guy a break, he's not on slashdot the whole night and day waiting for something good. Try fighting yourself, and see if your comments change. Someone has to fight, can you do it?

Good luck at your interview, gambatte!
