  1. I have but one piece of advice: on Ajit Pai Calls California's Net Neutrality Rules 'Illegal' (arstechnica.com) · · Score: 1

Go fuck your shoe, Ajit Pai.

  2. Screw Nintendo. They are ridiculously over-litigious. Come on, most of these games are forgotten and/or completely inaccessible otherwise. And if they honestly want us to believe that the emulation community is a threat to their hardware lock-in, walled-garden money machine, they're completely insane.

New FSB directive: co-opt liberal and social justice terminology in an attempt to sow dissent. When called out for your shit, make sure to call it "racism" and say you are "deeply offended". If possible, say "so much for the tolerant left".

This is so monumentally stupid and short-sighted. The Internet is one of the most tremendous forces in human society, and allowing corporate interests to control it more than they already do will inevitably lead to an imbalanced and unfair system. Anyone who honestly believes in the tired old canard of "those awful freeloaders" needs to pick up a fucking history book once in awhile. Trust me, they can easily deal with bandwidth hogs already if they really want to. This is not an issue of "oh, we just need more corporate power". Anyone who thinks corporate interests exist to serve anything other than their bottom line needs to seriously consider psychiatric medication.

Horseshit. I have a customer who bought a 2.5ghz machine from Dell with only 128mb of ram on it, and there was so much swapping being done that nothing happened. When I upgraded the ram to 512mb, that was a thing of the past.

  9. you'd have no problem getting people to do it on Internet-Created Free Audio Dramas? · · Score: 1

I myself am an aspiring vocal actor and I can tell you that you would probably get a large turnout of talent if you had a well-organized project along these lines.

I mean, people act not primarily because it's something they're good at, but because it's something they like to do. The vast majority of actors don't get to do those things that really interest them, however. Vocal actors, especially, are often locked into what they feel is an endless rut of advertisements, radio spots or dead-end DJ jobs.

Giving them the chance to do something interesting and get a following would generate one hell of a turnout, I think.

  11. Slashdot Warning on Linux for the PlayStation 1 · · Score: 1

Before /. posts such obviously interesting stories such as this, they should really send a warning to the web site in question, informing them that they are about to be deluged with packets from curious geeks like myself. If such an attack comes without warning (as in this case), then we are left with no downloadables, and no mirrors. ...You know, kind of like a tidal wave warning.

Damn straight! Algorithm Design & Data Structures might not have been the most FUN class in the world, but it's the one that I call on most often in my mind. Hey Toodles, nice flame. Eat me. My MAIN question was if it had been DONE already. I became fast aware of the limitations of the system. My main question was about those defunct projects and whether or not they got anywhere. Insofar as memory limitations and speed limitations, I am considering an attempt to port limited titles opcode by opcode to the PSX to see if it can be done reliably. MY suggestion to YOU is that YOU should get down off of your soapbox and just go code. -K

  15. Whatever happened to fitaly? on Very Cool, Very Vaporous 1-Handed Keyboard · · Score: 1

Seems to me a one-handed keyboard would be best utilized using the FITALY optimized one-handed keyboard. I don't know how they're arranging the keys on this thing, but they're AWEFULLY small from the look of those "design specs" they released, so unless they've got them arranged REALLY well, there are going to be some problems. Allow me to quote: "With no formal training required, the average user can achieve typing speeds of 40-60 wpm in far less time than it takes to learn how to touch type on a standard keyboard. Several major companies and government agencies are currently evaluating AG's technology." Hmm, sounds upbeat. Maybe they've developed a keyboard scheme of they're own... wow, the FITAMY keyboard! Revolutionary. Don't even get me STARTED on that little LCD. Betcha' THAT sucker has good resolution...oh yeah, and I'm sure it doesn't eat batteries at ALL. ===
