I say let M$ give them the equipment, the recycle area at M$ is usually full of not bad hardware (133 - 300mhz). They can always run a different os. In fact, if a linux install was prepared for them (ie. a cd image), then take them hardware (which would all follow a set models)- it would work great.
My 2 cents.
Speaking as one inside the evil empire (MS), yet I'm part of the rebel alliance(i have penguin love): MS will not go with this stuff. And the several service contracts with vendors (Compaq, dell), I feel safe to assure you that MS considerable muscle will be used to just say no.
My 2 cents.
Actually, MS does care about linux. I saw a notice about linux being the biggest threat to MS dominence of server markets in the next ten years.......(I work for the evil empire, but am part of the rebel alliance):P
It seems to me that Government is legislating for the lowest posible IQ. They are stating that if your stupid and don't know anything about computers, you have nothing to worry about. That makes many in police (read FBI), military and government feel that they can better control the country. They care not for innovation, nor technology. For them, tech pecked at a really good TV set. They see anybody with the understanding of computer as a threat and want to deal with them as such. However, the more laws they make, its the enforcement that is going to be the real bitch. Once they have the power, they will abuse it. Wow, I bumming myself out.
I wonder how much longer we are going to go before we have a revolution of thought that changes things.
Remember, never get between a corporation and a government. The are the goliaths(sp?) that should check each other (too bad we don't have someone to champion us).:P
