If you look at the "insanely long list"(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Lua-scripted_video_games) on wikipedia, angry birds is the first well known computer game listed. I think this is half lack of any relevant knowledge, half laziness.
If your labor is greater than the 50k cost I would say it was a rip off and a bad investment
Probably not. The accumalated bug fixes over the course of 30 years have probably cost them much more than the purchase price. If the system were to be redone from scratch, it would bring with it a whole other set of bugs, which would have to be fixed.
I learned computer programming from Invent With Python, and I know four programming languages now (Python, Java, C++, C#), not to mention HTML, CSS and Javascript. I would definitly recommend it.
