Erm.....Well, it seems so obvious to the rest of the world, I'm wondering why I'm even bothering. However, the reason that the US has so many shootings in High Schools is the gun laws and the availability of guns. I'll say that again. ITS YOUR GUN LAWS. How many other countries in the world which have no guns or better gun laws have so many shootings? Hmmm....none. See the correlation here?
Guns = more shootings, whether in schools or on the streets. As a UK resident, it seems blindingly obvious that the US should make guns illegal for private citizens. Common sense, no?
Call me crazy, but the fact that Americans merrily blast the hell out of each other on a daily basis is because anyone can get hold of a gun. In the UK, I've never even SEEN a real gun. How many shootings in schools were there last yeat in Britain? None.
Just a thought.:)
Jon.
Jeez, I used to think you/.ers were kinda cool with your crazy Linux rantings, but after using Linux in the workplace for a year and then going back to Windows, I LOVE it. But hey, thats because I need to use actual applications rather than just jerk off about how cool free software is. I use MS Visual C++ everyday (I'm a games and DB programmer) and it is cool. The only thing that sucks under MSVC++ is the resource editor. I'd much rather define all my resources by hand, thank you so very much MS.
The moral of this story is: Just because MS made it, don't make it automatically bad.
However, I'd switch to an all Linux machine if:
1. A Linux style version of DirectX was available.
2. The graphics drivers didn't suck.
3. The GUI programming routines didn't suck.
Standardisation, people, thats what I want. I like Linux AND Windows. I just don't want to be a little Linux Zealot intellectually masturbating about how cool Linux is and how much MS sucks. Lifes too fucking short. At the end of the day, Windows does what I want. Linux (at the mo) doesn't. End of story....Hippies:)
Personally, I bought a DC over the PS2. Why? 'Cos the games are better. Listen...
1. Soul Calibur
2. Crazy Taxi
3. Quake III: Arena
4. Unreal Tournament
5. Half-Life
6. Phantasy Star Online
And ya got all the modem-related greatness. All for half the price of a PS2.I won't be getting a PS2, because of the difficulty of programming thw machine. By the time the programmers have got up to speed on the PS2, the X-Box will be out and stompin' all over it. Hooray for X-Box.
Why is there all this Katz bashing here? Okay, so
you might not agree with what the guy is saying
and stuff, but honestly, so what? At least Katz
is contributing something. Personally, I don't agree with a lot of what he says, but I find "Katz articles" very entertaining. If you've got something better/more intelligent/whatever, then write in instead.
Jeez...
The Season Three Buffy box set. Pretty cheap and hours of slayer-stylin' fun.
Unreal Tournament for DreamCast (yeah, fat chance)
Winsock enlightenment so I can finish my videogame before new year.:)
RM
BTW, ya know you yanks are nothin' but a colony anyway. Soon, the British government will claim what is ours...BWAAHAHAHAAAA!!
