It's different because there is plenty of opportunity for boys to go to computer camp. Literally every other computer camp is a "boys computer camp" because they dominate the enrollment.
You're not having some amazing insight man, archaeologists, and people that give a shit, use special shoes. Like a really big flat shoe that spreads out your weight so as not to disturb the ground.
How do you then explain the fact that there are western countries like Greece and Italy that have roughly equal men and women in STEM careers? The answer really is that it is cultural. I don't know why we can't accept that.
Unless your stance is the abolishment of law enforcement, you have to accept that they need these +1 powers to do their job effectively
This is complete bullshit. There are perfectly acceptable non-lethal responses to force that the police could use, i.e. tasers, mace, bean bag guns. And are you seriously stipulating that they could not do their jobs without being able to arbitrarily assault people who are not using force of any kind?
Did you even bother to look at that page you linked you? Every news article on there is about BLACK people being shot by WHITE police officers, except the one I noted about Dillon Taylor. Kindly go away now.
Point me to that please. There was that guy Dillon Taylor (who wasn't even white, he was hispanic) that every republican was yelling about like it nullifies Michael Brown, but beyond that I haven't seen any. At the same time, there were tons of unarmed black people killed by the police in my city alone. If white kids are getting killed, then sure that is a problem and we should also be concerned about it. Just like I was equally upset when Dillon Taylor was shot. But I don't see any evidence that it is prevalent to the degree that black people being shot is.
I can tell you only know about black people from The Wire, so I'm going to disregard your ridiculously ignorant comments about "brown and black cultures". Crime culture is not a thing. That's like saying white people have a problem with glorifying crime because they love Scarface.
No. There is no law that says you have to be polite to people. It's a value that we encourage, as a society, but you are perfectly within your rights to be a raging asshole to everyone you meet. You don't NEED to be humble. But you do need to not be shot.
I really don't understand how you can come to this conclusion without harboring some seriously racist ideas yourself. Unarmed black kids are getting killed by the police all over the country. That is not an acceptable outcome. The school can't fix the interaction from the side of the police officers, but they can teach kids how to respond in those situations so that the risk is minimized. How can that be anything but good?
It's almost like you have never used public transit before. They don't run empty trains, they run fewer of them. On peak hours, the trains come back to back. Other times you might wait 5-10 minutes. As far as the number of stops, again they are way ahead of you. Many cities have express trains that only stop every 5+ stops, which you take to the nearest junction and then switch to the local train to get to your final destination. Your arguments are all completely wrong.
That's why in pretty much all of my classes the I replace the final exam with a few class sessions at the end where each student has to give a short lecture on a topic that we have not covered in class. If you have learned what you are supposed to learn about the basics of the subject, then you can research and present advanced topics to your peers. If you haven't, then you will have a lot of trouble. And there is no way to cheat.
Woman are more rational than men, and don't want to go into CS because it might be a bad job market. So fields like psychology and art history, which have more than enough women, must have amazing job prospects, right? Anyone who thinks about it for two seconds can see that the problem is not that simple.
That's so entitled it is ridiculous. Oh no, I can't live in a $650k house, I am so poor. You realize that a $100k household salary puts you in the top 20% of households in the US, ignoring any money your spouse might make. What are the other 80% of people doing to live? Yeah, yeah, some places are more expensive than others. But your Starbucks barista in your super-expensive city still lives somewhere. Your barber lives somewhere. And they have kids too.
Nobody said anything about a family on a single income. I was talking about one person's income. It's still not poverty, but yes, as a household income that is not very extravagant. .
The fact that you are "qualified" to teach literally any course with any masters degree regardless of the relevance of your major is proof of that.
Just to clarify, that is only the case for elementary education. In middle school and up you have to have a degree in the subject (or at least something specific like " education") and pass the subject Praxis in order to be qualified to teach it.
Anyone who got an A in the course in question is qualified to teach it.
That's the kind of attitude that leads to terrible teachers. It really is not that easy. What do you think they do for two years in graduate school? Pedagogy is not a simple subject, and just because you know the material does not, in any way, mean that you can be an effective teacher. Also, if you think passing the course, or even excelling at the course, gives you the necessary content knowledge to effectively teach it, you are terribly mistaken. To be a really good teacher you need to have mastery of the entire discipline so that you understand where every class fits into the overall tableau. Not to mention the simple case of a student asking you a question that's not in the textbook (which is most of them).
The whole point of my post was to counter the guy that said he would be making more money if not for H1Bs. Tell that guy that there is such a thing as the free market, and he should suck it up when programmers can be hired cheaper from other countries. You are either pro market economies, and you should shut up about immigrants who will do your job for less money, or you are not, in which case why do programmers deserve more money than other jobs which provide similar societal value.
I'm just going by the numbers in the article, that salaries in the $100-200k range are common for programmers. And the average salary for a teacher in the US is about $50k. Even with conservative numbers, it is still at least 2x the salary on average, which is very substantial.
I didn't say that were that important, just that being a teacher requires an advanced degree and they are paid a lot less than programmers. And they make a good example because no one can say that their jobs are pointless or don't contribute to society like they would if I had said, "what about the MFAs/liberal arts PhDs". In fact, what I was trying to say that there is nothing special about programmers. Why do they deserve to make 3-4 times what other professions that require similar hours, and equivalent or higher education, make? And your sister might make that, but the average salary for a teacher in the US (across all levels of experience) is close to $50k.
It's different because there is plenty of opportunity for boys to go to computer camp. Literally every other computer camp is a "boys computer camp" because they dominate the enrollment.
Yeah except the difference there is the male to female ratio is 3:2. In many CS classes it is more like 10:1. Not the same at all.

He did not say that they could arbitrarily assault people who are not using force of any kind.
Except he did:
A police officer can, for example, punch you in the gut at will
Kindly shut the fuck up now.

There are some famous ones, of course:

There are a lot more than that though. For instance, there are two from just this week:

Good trolling effort, but a bit too obvious. Better luck next time.

That's an urban legend.

So why doesn't your wife have a job? I didn't say $100k as a household income for four was a lot, I said for one person's salary it was a lot.
