I am sure that you can save the state of the machine in such a way that it doesn't matter whether you press higher or lower, you will always win.
I guess it gets more headlines in slashdot if you say it is proven that the machine cheats and you will always loose. (even though in the long run this is true anyway since the payout is a fixed percentage.)
Singapore has something like this implemented

Using GPS to Hail Cabs

Mobile Phone operator Singtel in Singapore has implemented a range of location based services since last year.
One of the services is to get a cab. The landmarks are locations close to your current position (in most cases within a 100m):
"You will receive a SMS listing the landmarks near your location for your pickup location. Select your preferred pickup location and confirm your booking. You will receive a SMS indicating the taxi number and estimated arrival time once the booking is successful."
Another good feature is busses. You can type your destination, and it will direct you to the nearest busstop, and give you the busnumbers and transit locations. Unfortunately they have implemented this for only one of the three main busoperators. Still it is a good start.
In an average year, 10 to 20 percent of the people get infected with some form of influenza. There are different strains, so for arguments sake lets say 0.5% of the people gets infected with the SARS virus (very conservative estimate).
Based on the current deaths, approximately 3-4% of the people who get infected, actually dies. (experts are actually arguing that this number may be higher). On a population of 6 billion, that is approximately 900,000 people.(or to put it in a US perspective 75,000 people)
Normal influenza kills mostly the weak and old. SARS does not. So far it has killed a lot of nurses and doctors. Something to think about before making a decision on whether or not to participate.
They could use the same technology as was mentioned in this story earlier this week , where they could monitor the radiation from the local oscillator in your radio.
With some intelligent number plate recognition and a database of taxi's who have and have not paid the fees, you could have big brother watching you again in no time.
Unless off course planes are grounded for whatever reason (remember 911) or pilots go on strike etc. Besides disrupting the traveling infrastructure you would also disrupt (some of) the communication infrastructure.
Is there any chance of a big wave resulting from this ?
I seem to remember seeing a documentary where a 'small' piece of an iceberg resulted in a huge wave about a mile further down near the shore....

Shwitching off the radio would not help since Silence has been copyrighted as well.

I can vaguely recall that there was a program running on the Palm OS, where you could beam money accross.
I was looking on the PayPal website, but could not find anything.
Anybody any ideas ?
