  1. CAVE systems are tracked on VirtuSphere Immersive Virtual Reality · · Score: 1

The user is tracked in most CAVE systems via a magnetic tracker (usually something like an Ascension Flock of Birds). Most user-interface items such as pointers and/or steering wands are tracked in the same way. The main user can walk around the CAVE environment and the tracking program will take their position into account during rendering. Other users in the system must stay close to the main user if they want to have an immersive experience. Otherwise, their view will be skewed.

  2. Diabetes analysis is done now... on Ever Smell T-Rex's Breath? · · Score: 3, Informative
Researchers at Mississippi State University recently discovered a way to detect diabetes by using the breath of the subject. I'm sure that similar efforts are being directed at cancer.

According to the article, it utilizes Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy (CRDS) to detect concentration levels of acetone in a person's breath gas.

  3. VW Beetle on How Much Does A Cloud Weigh? · · Score: 1

I thought that all scientific measurements had to be expressed in a number relating to VW Beetles.

I.e. The meteor that struck last night was roughly the size of a VW Beetle. etc.etc.

  4. I've used the Formac on 3D Stereo Graphics for Macs? · · Score: 1

I've used the Formac Performance3 (Permedia) card with the glasses it comes with. The card is hopelessly outdated now so it's not installed in my box anymore but it worked flawlessly with ANY OpenGL program that was running. I'm not sure if Formac has a current card that will support the glasses, but you can check. If not, then you could always just buy one of the cards off of ebay or something since it would probably be good enough to drive the things that you are doing if you are currently using a Rage128.

Unreal looked nice in 3D, although it does tend to get you sick after a long time of playing. ;)

LCDs are not going to be able to refresh fast enough for shutter glasses like the CrystalEyes. You will need to have a monitor that has a refresh rate of at least 100Hz.

I've worked with the CrystalEyes products in an SGI CAVE setting for quite sometime and they are a fine product. You should be able to get some information from them as to why your setup isn't working.
