  1. Cheapest solution for 4 linux servers? on Laptops, Headless Servers and KVMs? · · Score: 1

We run linux but wanted remote bios, lilo and boot messages. I have configured our servers for serial output using this howto:
    http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-HOWTO/Remote-Serial -Console-HOWTO.html

I then plan to connect a cheap 4 port serial to ip unit (around 200 bucks):

Providing remote (pre network) access to 4 machines for 200 dollars. Is there a cheaper solution for four machines?

I had 2 different models -- one my dad got for me from Japan ~ 100 bucks and had all the databank features...

The other I bought in England in '89 and that was only 50 pounds...

They had all the databank features of the casio pda databanks of the time.

How funny, I am sitting in the third floor lab about 100 feet away from your IMA meeting!!! I don't know about the 3-180 room but the other two main CSCI lecture halls (3-210/220) have video conferencing build it!!! I would talk to building management and see what they know!!!

  5. WebTelemetry Better Alternative on The Debian Telemetry Box · · Score: 2

Check out WebTelemetry.com it offers similar features to NetSaint, but requires no installation. WebTelemetry monitors systems remotely from their servers, its no good having NetSaint on your network try to send you an email message to your pager when it can't get to the internet either! WebTelemetry also comes with a nifty JAVA applet GUI. WebTelemetry does have a server component, which you can install on your own server. The only need for this is monitoring systems behind a firewall. WebTelemetry also has WAP (wireless web) access already running... So if your are a server admin you can check on your systems from anywhere... very useful for diagnosing problems when you can't get to the internet via land lines... something that netsaint is now doing (or should I say copying!).
