I just got off the phone with Apple and they said "you'll have to buy two ipods if you want to use them on Windows and the Mac." Damn it, why can't Apple just for once make it easy.
I am putting off my order of the iPod until I find out if there is a workaround for the "feature". That really bytes too cause it looks like the Apple Store is also offering a free car power adapter with the purchase of the iPod.
Firewire has two different types of cables, the 4 and the 6 pin style. 6 pin is quite a bit larger, is used on all modern Macintoshes and can get quite a bit of power to the device. 4 pins is smaller but can't get the power to the device. Most pc's use the 4 pin variety but Apple stuck with the full sized 6 pin on both the Mac and the iPod so you can power and yes, charge the ipod from the Mac's power supply. With Windows they supply a more standard 4-6 pin cable which means you need a seperate way to charge it since one connector doesn't not have the 2 pins for power. Apple usually comes through and supplies an adapter to charge from the wall outlet.
If you use Windows, Analogx.com has a good internet time sync software program. Other wise, the best/complicated/geeky way is to get a GPS reciever that can interface with a PC and has a script that polls it for the time, updates the clock, and shares it with local computers with a nero zero lat connection. You should be good constantly within a second on all your pc's to GPS time.
I am not positive but wasn't the computer an Apple Macintosh running A/UX? I am fairly positive that I saw and Apple logo on the case. Apple used to make a version on Unix for the Mac, before OS X flipped it around and put a Mac over a Unix kernel (Darwin).
You can find the info on A.UX at http://www.applefritter.com/ui/aux/index.html
His review of the Matrix sucked as much as he does

Physics in the Movies
·
· Score: 1
While I do agree with the whole power source delema he brings up about humans being batteries and perpetual motion crap, it was a damn movie and when you go past that crap, it is very creepy. As for the other laws of physics, it is a computer simulation and even Morpheous said that they can be broken. It was a good movie even with the crazy ideas. And another thing, the Oracle was cool. It sucks that she died. There was a lot of potential for part 3. Now you want a movie with bad physics, try Mission to Mars. Think about it, Woody didn't have to die. If she had stopped before she fired the teather, she could have grabbed him, blow her fuel tanks enough to slow them down, turned around, fired the teather at Remo (I think that was the name), and have been saved. Plus the organ music sucked and computer voice slowing down was pretty stupid. The double Helix MMs while impossible, were true "eye candy". Get it? Eye candy.
Fuck the Bozos. 12 Monkeys (another movie with potential but I hate the hero goes through the movie just to be fuck anyways at the end, aka 12 monkeys, Titanic, Planet of the apes.
He has Microsoft written all over him. He was partially right though and at least he did say that governments should have a choice. Boo that man off ZdNET anyways.
Purchase a Cisco PIX Firewall. Yes they are expensive as hell and yes a cheap Linux Firewall can do the exact same thing but
a) Linux is a pain in the butt at times b) The Cisco is built for this purpose
My school district is like this ( duh )
Internet CSU/DSU PIX Linux Web Cache Only Proxy Cisco Router SW Bell Equipment that connects a T1 to every (50+) school through a dual ring fiber optic connection across the city
Each school just has a simple Cisco Router connected to a large switch that then links to other switches in the same server room and to Fiber Optics to the other switch rooms across the school
Now if you don't have money to blow like that (keep in mind this is a city of 140000 people), just stay simple with THE PIX FIREWALL and a Cobalt.com Chache RAQ server.
The PIX will allow you to throttle each service/port a certain amount of bandwidth. You can say web full bandwidth available and most everything else just basic access. As an addedd bonus they are like magic. Any hacker will have a hard time even getting into your network and you will be alerted of most attacks as they are happening. (by pager if setup correctly) Plus outgoing attacks will also trip an alarm to the pager and will record the MAC address of the offender. It is even possible to catch the offender before they even leave their terminal.
Yes Linux can be made to do the same thing but usually schools boards will pay the extra for the piece of mind (a correctly configured Cisco firewall will sound better in court if something BAD was to happen).
You can get TechTV if you subscribe to DirectTV. Time Warner digital cable also carries the channel. I guess that this would be a good time to order the service.
If you can't, don't worry, I (meaning me and 50,000 other people) have the TIVOs programmed and ready to be re-digitized into MPEG format. The battery backup is in place too. I am even considering hooking up my computer to the box and broadcasting live to as many people I can send to without overloading my cable modem. Check for a reply here from me if I do.
Apple offers the educational discount for people that either work in almost any school (K-12 or higher) or attend college. Check out the Apple Store @ http://store.apple.com then click Education @ the top for the details.
Seriously, everybody knows what happens to a page once it's/.'d. Stop encouraging this p0rn site. If their like most others, they make money from each hit and their counters just up another notch.
While I know that it produces no pollution at all and am completly for the technolgy (can't wait to but a car powered by one of these babies), it will be using up Oxygen. Multiply that by all of the fuel cells that we will one day be using and that is a lot of oxygen that will be used, probably comparable to the amount used for hydrocarbon combustion today. That will seriously reduce the amount of Oxygen in the air, turning it into water, and plants can't breath water.
Another point is getting the Hydrogen. We will take Hydrocarbon based fuels and break them apart, releasing the carbon in them as Carbon Dioxide, increasing the carbon dioxide levels on Earth, much like burning it does.
Has anybody studied the effects that this may cause in comparison to what happens simply burning the hydrocarbons. If anybody know anymore about this, PLEASE reply, I want to know more.
