Well, I pulled up behind him as he was parked on the side of the road and got out of my car to ask him directions. Didn't realize that "To Protect And Serve" doesn't include being able to actually fucking approach them. Scrawny guy like me scared a cop enough to pull a gun on me. The ultimate pussy. I was about 25 headed to my first day on a new job and wasn't sure if I was going the right way on the beltway. What a fucking crime!

And it was quite awkward with him pointing the gun at me screaming orders, but being downwind I couldn't hear a FUCKING WORD HE SAID. So I put my hands up, figuring that was the smartest thing to do.

And I was THERE with the beating. Didn't see it directly, because I was hiding in the floor of a parked car, but I saw the damage afterwards and was part of the scene. (Seeing as I was WOKEN UP from being drunk and passed out by the cop's flashlight in my face, as he said "Put that fuckin fire out" to the crowd of highschoolers.) My friend was handcuffed. They told him to get in the car without actually opening the cruiser door, and pushed him repeatedly into the closed door until they finally opened it for him. Very funny. Visible bruise for a month. His mom wasn't happy with me. Thus ended one of my best friendships in high school.

My other friend, got his car confiscated for selling drugs. They lied and said he sold them. Really, he GAVE them away. The narcs managed to ask him to HOLD some money for them (which I personally would not have done). The cops then later testified that he actually took the money in exchange for the drugs, when in fact the money was laaned the following day, and the drugs (Xanax) were given. I realize that *giving* away drugs is still illegal, but that doesn't make purgery acceptible.

The practice is actually so widespread with police that they have their own word for it -- "testilying".

You are obviously a conservative who loves to lie to yourself in order to paint the world in a rosier color than it is. This isn't the fucking Matrix; wake up. Just becuase you don't see it firsthand doesn't mean it is happening. And 1000 good cops don't mean shit if there is just one bad cop. I don't want to deal with anyone in that type of position of power who has even a 0.1% chance of being crooked! Not to mention the corrupt cops stories I get emailed to me every week.

I guess, any voices of dissent should be quelled. There's a word for that: China. And another (well, 2 words actually): Saudi Arabia.

Guess what folks? Entertained prisoners are less likely to riot and less likely to stick you with a shiv. Prisoners cost $30K a year for us to house, and that's not counting the medical costs when Joe gets shivved in the nutsuck by Malcolm.

It's simple cost-benefit analysis. If you want to spend more money, go ahead, but our prison system is already doomed for failure. At our current rate of increase of incarceration, 50% of americans will be in prison by the time we reach retirement. THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Something is going to break before then. (Hopefully the drug laws.)

But these people calling for mandatory 5 year sentences for any felony? Hate to break it to you, but if you've downloaded an mp3, you've committed a felony. Just about anything can be considered a felony. Steal a mailbox? Felony. Anyone saying someone deserves 5 yrs in prison for stealing a mailbox, at a cost to taxpayers of $150,000 (not counting court and legal costs), should be incarcerated themselves for being a fucking kneejerk dolt.

And america has the highest incarceration rate of any nation in the country. We are the LEAST FREE country on the planet. Prisons are not solving out problems, and turning them into gulags isn't going to help anything either. Grow the fuck up.

Furthremore, in many situations there are non-developers dealing with things. If I let them use a system such as this, all of a sudden, *I* will have to do their checking in and chekcing out *FOR THEM*. Fuck that.

In short... I'd much rather rely on myself than some piece of software I have never used. I'm supposed to just take Software X's word that it will work as described, and never fail? These are pages generated for me on my local machine. It's my preferred way of viewing images. I type a command "image-index " and an HTML file is generated and viewed (and deleted) automatically -- containing all images that match the regex. And an option to do them in chrono instead of alphabetic order, an option to recurse folders, and another option to actually save the HTML file (which uses filename-only, no path, and thus doesn't work well with the recursive option.)

So you see, I don't have the problem of a webpage that only I can see the images on. I do indeed laugh at those when I see them. :)

Furthermore I should add: I believe URI should also include any local filename using the file notation of the local machine automatically. In otherwords, A:\oh.jpg should be a valid URI on a machine running a filesystem where A:\oh.jpg is a valid way of expressing a file. But it should not be a valid URI for everyone. Since I'm using this locally, it shouldn't matter.
