Let's try this again. I keep forgetting Slashdot has no edit button: It was a metaphor, not a model. My point was that something being able to be affected by external events isn't the same as being "vulnerable to manipulation", nor is it necessarily bad. The points work for most somethings, currency or not.

I probably muddied the point by making 2 points at once.

What, you think I conduct a study and write up an abstract to leave a slashdot comment? Bitcoins were 8 cents. Now they're $920 or so. The stock market certainly didn't beat it since inception, regardless of cherry picked intervals.

Anyone whining that it's a bad investment just comes off as sour grapes. If I'd put $100 in back when I thought it was a cool thing, I could have paid off my house last year.

Sounds like you should wear a mask, otherwise you're doing nothing to stop the govt from photographing you, and just bitching at the targets (people) that are small enough (smaller than a government), to pick on.

Personally I think that we have a right to privacy, but that right ends when it comes to you telling someone not to do something in public. You can live your own life in your own space, but you don't own the photons of light that bounce off of you, or the ability to capture that. You do own what you project, so I support you being able to wear a mask.

I'm actually quite pissed off at anti-mask laws for precisely that reason. I feel most people have not considered this angle. I'm a big "don't tell me what to do and I won't tell you what to do" person.
