I have tried out voice recognition software to control Winamp. I yell "pause", and the microphone hears me say "pause" and pauses the music.
The problem is that sometimes the music might make a sound that sounds like the word "pause" as well, thus pausing itself.
Why not simply cancel out "what you hear" coming out of the speakers, from "what is spoken" going into the microphone? Then the voice-recognition software could focus solely on my voice, instead of my voice mixed in with the winamp music....
Just copy your old Trillian folder over from your old windows installation.
I've never lost my contacts. EVER. And I've gone through several windows install. You're just being lazy/ignorant. Perservearance pays, even if I can't spell it.
Personally, I prefer my FM-transmission solution. PCI card in PC that transmits on FM. I have 4 or 5 zones playing music in my house, and you can usually hear 2 of them at once. Synchronization is a MUST! It's cheap, easy, and I can tune into my mp3s even with my walkman or hand-crank radio. "PCI MAX 2005" is the name of the product, it runs $180.
Hi,
I am glad you at least think everyone can say what they think. Whoever attacked my blog sure didn't. And comments get mailed to me and my wife, so we both got our inboxes flooded because someone else wants to to opress someone else that they thought was me.
I guess I'm just collatoral damage. Like a civilian in Iraq who gets bombed because they might believe in Saddam, but are otherwise innocent of any wrongdoing.'
I think automated comments of any fashion are pretty annoying. Although the GNAA stuff is kind of funny in a highly-annoying away.
And yes, I can see how it would be easy to suspect I was the author. Though I suspect in reality the real author is too clever to ever accidentally put a signature into an anonymous post. Also probably too automated to do so.
Glad you like my opinions! That's rare:)

It's nice of you to include a link to my blog. I see you've been doing your research.
You are neglecting some very important details, however. IF YOU RTFBP (Read The Fucking Blog Post), you will see that I begin it by saying, "This came from an anonymous slashdot comment."
I was reposting it, because I thought it was brilliant.
That doesn't mean I'm the one who originally said it.
I don't say things as AC because, unlike some people, I have balls.

I will continue to say whatever the hell I want, when I want, where I want, however I do like to point out that that comment was way too detailed for me to even make. I do not even know enough about Linux to intriciately describe all of the Quake3 setup that person spoke of.
The irony being his comment was an anti-linux comment made by someone with far more linux knowledge than myself, which merely vindicates my position that I have better things to do than to recompile my kernel.
But to write a script to attack someone who's viewpoint you don't like? Get a fucking life. There's much better things to be attacking than some random guy who's opinion you don't like. -- Brought to you by Drool... You're tasting it now! Generated by SlashdotRndSig via GreaseMonkey
No, I'm not. I happened to agree with most of them which is why I didn't initially object to my signature being put on a commend I didn't make. I even discussed this with a coworker. -- Brought to you by Drool... You're tasting it now! Generated by SlashdotRndSig via GreaseMonkey
Please stop attacking my blog with that script. It's actually sending emails out to 4 addresses. That's very annoying.
The comment wasn't mine. Someone posted it, and added my signature at it (to a different instance than the one in the link in your automated blogcomment, though).
They did this to redirect your wrath at me. It wasn't even me. You've been duped into attacking the wrong person. I see you changing your script. Please stop. -- Brought to you by Drool... You're tasting it now! Generated by SlashdotRndSig via GreaseMonkey
Slashdot doesn't add your signature to anonymous posts.
Someone else put my signature on the anonymous comment.
You, the attacker, are being manipulated into attacking me even though I did not make the anti-linux comments.
So please.. re-vector your attack at the true perpetrators. -- Karma: Negative (mostly from not giving a fuck) Generated by SlashdotRndSig via GreaseMonkey
Um.......... LIKE I'VE SAID IN THE PAST, ATI has the best TV out.
I use no monitor. I use a 36-inch TV.
Why the fuck would I dream of switching cards when it's doing exactly what I want? And it plays a mean game of Quake3 too.
The video capture breaking sucked, but I had always wanted a hauppage card anyway. Now I can move my video capture functionality from computer to computer without sacrificing the pristine TV out from my ATI card.
Why the hell would I want a company I love to go out of business? I own an ATI AIW, AIW Pro, AIW Radeon, 8500DV, 9600. I'm on my 5th card. And I'm not stopping.
You're the fucking moron, cuntwad. Probably use a monitor. That's so 1900s.
Um........ If the card plays a mean game of Quake3, why would I want to jeopardize my whole setup by swapping it out? And what would I swap it out with? I use my 36-inch tv as my monitor, and ATI has the best TV-out. ANY other card would look worse ALL the time.
Well, if you really want to quibble at an unnecesary level of granularity, the card did "come out" of Canada. It was just made elsewhere first. -- I'll bet every last fucking cent I own or will ever make that lake was frozen! Christians are such exaggerators! ==A friend of mine Generated by SlashdotRndSig via GreaseMonkey
It's just a matter of finding the right one, and STICKING WITH IT. But yea, their drivers suck.
My video capture eventually died. I wont re-install windows; I spent 2 yrs and the installation I have has all 200+ programs I regularly use. I mean sure, I can't kill processes with the windows process manager, but I've learned how to use Cygwin's port of the unix kill command very well and even have scripts that auto-kill all the BS windows processes and strip me down to 12 or so processes. Yay!
But I digress.
I ended up getting a Hauppage video capture card, and I run the open-source BTxWin(I think that's what they are called) video capture drivers which work well with virtualdub.
If using the ATI drivers, there is a VFM driver wrapper that wraps the ATI's WDM interface into a VFM interface, so that you can still use VirtualDub with an ATI card. Assuming you're not me and it's broken inexplicably. It's 35K, and I will mail it to anyone who needs it.
I was pantless and in no mood for my computer to be on fire when I turned it on!
The fan also died and I had a room-fan pointed inside my open case for a month or two. (Yes, I procrastinate.)
That's still no excuse for catching on fire TWO SECONDS after turning on a machine that had been off for hours.
When I RMA'ed it, they didn't send it back for 4 months. Finally, I called, long distance, and they didn't know where to send it. USE THE RETURN ADDRESS FOOLS. I even included their required piece of paper inside the box with my address and RMA number as well.

But..... No apples anywhere. The solution involves finding an Apple2GS, and an older MAC. Both are hardware I don't have access to.
I would pay, but even at a dollar a disk, this would become pricey.
I would also share all data with anyone who would help me. There are probably literally over 1000 games and such.
There is no solution, and buying harddrives is simply the cheapest way to add extra storage.
I have over 2 terabytes on my LAN, and would never dream of buying an HD less than 400G nowadays. I also have about 5000 CD-Rs and 2000 DVD-Rs full of offline-content. Everything is indexed in greppable text files.
There is no escape. Drives become full, and then you must offload files as fast as you add new ones. For me, this is 5-10G a day.
My point is: There is no escape. You can't win, you can't break even, and you can't quit. Don't futz around with uber-expensive "storage hardware"; everything is just a more expensive harddrive. Backup your data to disc, then you wont need a RAID array. Most of my 2 terabytes on my LAN is "ready to delete" in case of a real space crisis.

You're not worth my time since you are sub-human and belong in the society created in George Orwell's 1984, so I will be blunt:
Screwing a corp out of $400 does not screw any individual out of $400. Consider that corporations have built-in the fact that they suffer "shrinkage" (theft) and make a profit nonetheless. I do not believe stealing $400 from a company even takes as much as a penny out of any individual investor's pocket in the long run. IT'S NOT THE FUCKING SAME AS TAKING $400 FROM A PERSON. Would you turn in your mother for stealing a penny? THERE ARE DEGREES. Sit there in denial if you want.
$400 makes zero/negligible difference in the long-term investment of a company. All corporations will eventually gladly harm people if they can make a profit. The only ones who don't are those who go bankrupt before they get the chance. Corporations are not people, but have more rights than people. Personally, I'd rather screw the government out of $400 since they take my tax dollars and use it to kill people and put non-violent offenders in jail, but that's another discussion entirely.
"Care to explain how the theft in question is ever outside of the black side of the shades of grey or white?"
Are you serious? Or do you lack an imagination? Gee, let me see...stealing bread for your hungry family. Yea, that wasn't hard. I think an 8-year-old could probably have come up with that. Or how about stopping terrorism? We freeze the assets of organizations believed to finance terrorism. Sometimes a government takes the assets completely and assimilates it into it's own, in the name of stopping terrorism. Is stopping terrorism morally wrong too? ("You don't hate children, do you?")
"(wow your powers of claravoiance must win you a lot of poker games)", actually, I win or break even in any 5-8 person texas holdem match. I have not lost this decade (I don't play often and win nonetheless).
"If your precious PS2 dies after warranty ends you need to take SONY to task for making a shit product that does not last."
Actually, Sony wont repair modded PS2s.:) But anyway, I agree with you completely. That was not the issue. The issue was turning in your friend and ruinig his life. If your friend steals $400, how is it just to do something that will deprive him of $1,000,000 over the course of his life? ($50K/yr white-collar job for 20 years that he can't get with his criminal record.) Would you punch your mom in the face for stealing a penny? DIFFERENCES IN DEGREES. GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS.
"Frankly the best way to live is not to screw people."
Agreed. Live and let live. But screwing your friend out of his life because he screwed faceless investors out of less than a penny is not commiserate. If you screw your friend 100X harder than he screwed someone else, YOU ARE THE REAL CRIMINAL. An enemy of friendship, trust, and human compassion.

Actually, ambulances AREN'T allowed to speed. (I could be mean and say this is because of people like you, but that would probably not be valid.) Ambulance drivers have been given jail time for manslaughter for accidents incurred while driving someone to the hospital.
Murder is not theft. There are degrees of difference in everything. Morality is not black and white. It is shades of grey. If you can only see 0s and 1s, as you certainly seem to, then you are as unfeeling as a machine. And if you agree with turning them in for screwing a corporation that has definitely screwed others for more, you basically ARE a machine.
