  1. Re:Eliminating the SAT sucks! on Cal Schools May Nix SAT In Admissions Process · · Score: 1

I dropped out in the 10th grade - the day after my 16th birthday - with a GPA of about 2. I took the GED and passed, which I could have after 5th grade. I worked for five years, took the SAT, scored a 1480 (old scale) and went to college (as a 'hardship' student) and excelled (Phi Beta Kappa/Magna Cum Laude). I've since earned two MS degrees and am a systems architect and university instructor. If I had it to do all over again I would have dropped out after the 2nd grade.
I loved to learn and hated school. For me the SAT was a way to avoid some of the time-wasting and unlearning that is high-school.

Salem, NH is on the Massacussetts border near Boston. A lot of computer businesses, stores and outlets are located in Salem to take advantage of NH's lack of a sales tax and draw most of their customers from the Boston area. Those businesses and the Salem, NH Chamber of Commerce might be interested to hear how outraged computer people (a.k.a customers) are about this.

  5. Home EEG on Surfing The Net With Brain Waves? · · Score: 1

There was a similar device described as a Circuit Cellar column project in Byte about 9 years ago. IIRC, you had to buy an EEG electrode from a medical supply house. The design was very simple - essentially an amplifier, A/D converter, and serial connector. Search the Circuit Cellar archives if you are interested.
