here is another very vivid example of why these languages should be banned. First they came for machine code, but I did not speak because this is 2008, after all.
Then they came for the asm greybeards, but I did not speak because I kind of agreed that trying to maintain it is a complete nighmare.
Then they came for Pascal, Ada and Fortran, but I did not speak as I believed them to be relics of my undergrad years.
Then they came for C++, but I did not speak because I was still bitter about management at my last C++ gig.
Then they came for C#/ActiveX/VB++.net, but I did not speak because I hadn't touched a windows dev environment for years and poking fun at Microsoft is fun.
Then they came for C, but I did not speak as I had been up all night chasing down bugs.
Then they came for the interpreted languages, and I did not speak as I believed that their only use was for monitoring scripts and batch renaming.
Then came friday, and nobody would have a beer with me.

While I've often heard this, I don't believe it to be the case. Here's why.

Suppose we have a little Chinese kid sitting with a one-time-pad sitting by a computer. His job is to look at each e-mail he receives, and turn it into a nice transparency of ascii art using the pad and a typewriter, which he then puts on an overhead projector. The only way to figure out the pad is to slit open his stomach and take the pad.

Use of drm with bluray/hd-hvd is analogous to this. The only difference is that nobody feels guilty about opening up a copy of windvd to get the key.

On the other hand, sony et al trying to improve security is equivalent to replacing the kid with a platoon of heavily armed soldiers.
