I assume you're referring to stem cell research. By limiting science do you mean providing millions of dollars for research using stem cells? Because that's what Bush did. He didn't cut funding at all.
By the way, what do you think is worse? The government providing funding for something millions of Americans ethically oppose, or the government funding projects that do not offend?
If the former, should the government post the 10 commandments in all schools? Would you be offended by that?
Irresponsibly cutting taxes and using it to blatently curry favor with the Nascar sect of American society.
Boy, I haven't heard this as a tax cut for the Nascar sect before--nice imagery, I'm impressed. I usually hear liberals attacking the tax cut as "a tax cut for the rich." Well I won't go into the details, but I think you'd be surprised at what tax cuts do for the economy. If you need more help, visit Tax Cuts on the Ronald Reagan Homepage. You'll find that cutting taxes increases Federal revenues and spurs the economy. Statistics don't lie.
As a side note, why is there a surplus? It means we were taxed too much. How would you feel if you went to a coffee shop and were charged $3.00 for a 50 cent cup of coffee. Would you want your money back? Certainly. Well the government is only giving us so much for our money, and they have some left over after it is all said and done. We are at the highest level of taxation in the history of the United States. The tax cut was sorely needed. If you don't want your money back, send it to me.
Environmental destruction in favor of short-term corporate gains (Alaska, Kyoto).
On the Alaska thing, do you think depending on Iraq and Iran for our oil is a good thing? Just curious. Because I notice that people against the Alaska drilling haven't thought about the foreign oil-dependence thing at all. They just want a land of flowers and people riding their bikes everywhere, and battery-powered cars but don't have a practical solution for the energy crisis we are in. They just say "research more technologies" or whatever, without any real solutions.
On the Kyoto thing, a fact the press doesn't report to you. In July 1997 the senate voted on the rejecting the Kyoto treaty. It passed 97-0. Surely this can't be, you say! There had to be some sensible liberals who love the environment enough to approve the treaty! Nope. Take a look at some of the people who voted against the Kyoto treaty: Tom Daschle (D-SD), Joe Lieberman (D-CT), Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and John Kerry (D-MA). And get this, the sponsor was Democratic Senator Robert C. Byrd (D-WV). Hmm, wasn't that Daschle attacking Bush this year. Yeah it was. Funny, isn't it?
Doing his best to restart the good 'ol cold war (ABM treaty breaking, trying to isolate China).
It's funny how defending oneself is seen as threatening. If I lock my door, am I threatening you?
This seems bogus. only 57% admitted to reading porn? I'm asking this because, everyone I know has at some point (guys, anyway) seen or read porn. I can understand the 95% Bible thing because most everyone has read the Bible at least once in their life.
So, this statistic seems very neato and scandalous, but it seems very manufactured and you haven't cited your source. Why is this modded 5?
So here's my stat, so you can mod me at 5, too:
55% of all rapists use computers, and 98% of them were Windows users.
So, it's either-or, huh? Come on, don't be so ridiculous. Look up the word "dichotomy."
There are two options, then, according to you: we can (1) train our children to be able to cope with life with Quake, Doom, and Unreal Tournament, or we can (2) give them Barney and Mr. Rogers. No in between at all, right?
I understand the fact that we shouldn't shelter our children in a bubble, leaving them unequipped to handle the real world. But you know, I know so many people that didn't play any Mortal Kombat growing up -- and (shock, gasp, horror) they are normal, productive members of society!
I play my share of violent games (Quake 2, Unreal, Q3A) etc., and I know for a fact that I will not go out and shoot someone because of the game. You have no argument from me there. But to imply that we'd be warping our kids by not allowing them to play violent video games is probably the funniest thing I've read today.
Or you can use gnapster, or knapster, or whatever you darn well please. Gnapster even has a menu item: Browse OpenNap Servers. No subscription needed. Napster cannot block it.
As for price, I heard $4.95/month somewhere, but I can't recall where. It might have been on the Drudge Report two months ago.
I side with DirecTV on this one, too. But, not everyone is in the dark. ..
A guy at work was using one of those so-called hacked chips. However, he had a backup: an emulator. So at 8:30 when the TV went out, he started setting up the backup. The emulator connects to the inside of the DirecTV unit through a serial cable to your computer. The computer gets the updates from DirecTV and stores them in memory and then sends the appropriate signals to the DirecTV unit. When Hughes sends out the updates, the computer accepts them, but it never effects the physical hardware. It even stores the updates on a floppy disk automatically. So no fried chips for the person with the emulator.
Like I said, I'm with Hughes on this. But they didn't defeat everyone.
If you actually took your blinkers off you might realize that - I don't just crap about Linux like you seem to about Windows. I haven't got an irrational fear/jealousy about Linux.
Microsoft sure does. See the Halloween Documents. This is Slashdot: News for Nerds, Stuff that Matters. There's always been an anti-Microsoft sentiment around here as it is a pro-Linux/BSD/*nix web site. If you don't like it, don't visit. Go create a website for Microsoft Weenies. Call it backslash-NAME-tilde.com. I don't expect Rush Limbaugh to start telling the Democratic side of the story simply because he's the most popular talk show host in the country! Why should/. start supporting Microsoft?
Redhat goes down, MS goes down . . . don't say that no-one needs to visit redhat.com . . . ever tried installing Redhat? . ..I spent 3 hours downloading things from http://updates.redhat.com.
You keep talking about Redhat. Do you understand (don't take this personal) that Redhat != Linux? Just an aside. You're coming across as the typical idiot who buys Redhat, installs it once, dinks around with it for 5-10 minutes, realizes that its not just like Windows, and quits learning. Then this idiot feels they know everything there is to know about Linux and starts spreading misinformation like "it took me 3 hours to update Linux" when you don't mention that it takes longer for Windows.
This stuff about Windows needing service packs often is bull. Linux has far more service packs, because Microsft(sic--emphasis added) updates things all at once whereas with Linux you have to update individually.
Are you too stupid to see the significance of this? While Windows users are getting their security bungholes ripped open while they wait for their precious Service Pack, Linux users can download the latest version of software and be safe from the nasty script kiddies.
The argument that it should be illegal because it might "cause" someone else to do something is thoroughly unconvincing. ..
What about going faster than 65 on the highway might cause you to get in a car accident? Studies show that this is true, and this is one of the main reasons why it is illegal to drive fast.
What's to prevent companies, especially international ones, from putting backdoors in? Raite and Apex do that with their DVD players. I wouldn't be surprised if some rogue digital tv maker did the same. US laws don't apply to the whole world!
The Matrox G400 (for OpenGL) and the G200 (for 2D) really are great cards for several reasons:
DRI. You can speed up your OpenGL performance in XFree86 4 with direct rendering, almost to the point of Windows' OpenGL performance. Matrox cards are consistently supported first when a new project springs up for X (Mesa, Utah-GLX, DRI).
Support. Matrox has a full-time technical support person working in the Linux Forum to help users with Matrox cards and getting them to do things like dual-head and OpenGL.
Drivers. Matrox actually helps by making Linux drivers for their own cards. Better yet, they even give the source code out.
There are other reasons as well, but these are my favorite

Good luck getting Linux users to pay. I hate to say it, but Linux users don't pay for software if they can get a comparable product for free.
