The bugs I've seen didn't have anything to do with allocation of enough digits (although I'm sure there are plenty). The most common bug is programmers sorting the date lexically so that any billion+ date stamp gets put at the bottom of a sort because 1 &lt [2-9].

Maildir stores it's messages in files with the format [timestamp].[pid].[host]. Pine, Mutt and others sort on date lexically. All new messages are showing up in the wrong place when sorted by date.

Also, the judge who did it would immediately place himself in the spotlight, and be cast off into the "biased" pool from the get-go.

Judge Jackson wasn't thrown off the case because he ruled against Microsoft. The Appeals court cited him for "serious judicial misconduct" because of his comments to the press. If the new judge refrains from calling Microsoft various names in the press then all will be well (well, at least legal proceedings will continue). As the Appeals court put it the judge was "convey[ing] the impression of a judge posturing for posterity, trying to please reporters with colorful analogies and observations bound to wind up in the stories they write." The case was remanded because of the judge's statements to the press, not because his decision was against Microsoft. Unfortunately (and justifiably?) his bias was obvious.

FreeBSD is in a niche (not may admins can use it -- companies hire from the mass market so the skillset is definitely limiting fbsds existance)

In five years of running an ISP I never had any problems finding highly qualified FreeBSD admins. Linux is gaining more and more since the availability of admins is there

If that's your metric then perhaps Windows is the way to go. There's a ton of MCSEs out there!

Note the company's website promotes the idea of police using this stuff for through-wall radar. Remember that thermal imagers have led to people getting arrested because their garage gave off more heat than the cops liked when they drove down the street...

Name a case. The devices have been used to find suspect houses that were then watched and when they had concrete evidence the arrest was made. No one has been arrested for having a hot garage. FUD

The idea is disturbing enough without resorting to mis-information.

Remember, whatever they claim about full managed hosting and experts on site, the people you call at 3AM in the morning will only be capable of rebooting your computer, if you are lucky. If not they'll ask you to wait till Monday at 8AM, while your credit card and customer information streams over the net.

I want the guy there at 3AM working on my system, not the one who shows up to work at 8AM on a Monday. I've never seen a good admin work 8-5!

Sounds good in theory, but here's the problem: what happens when a company grabs an open-source product like Linux, makes its own proprietary mods, and then sells the whole thing for a profit - but doesn't allow you to see its changes?

You call it the BSD license. The one I support and the only one I release code under.
