This seems like something that would take an excorsism to fix, but I have an 80GB drive that was in a server running windows 2000 (not my first choice, mind you, the new server is a Fedora core 1 box) that experianced an undue amount of heat and has proven to be a pain to revive. On one attempt the drive claims 800 GB in size and another it claims an 8 MB size, however I was once able to mount one of the partitions through Linux (alot of good it did, turns out all I recovered was a useless windows 2000 system partition). Has anyone seen this kind of error before, and if so would freezing the drive help, or is it without hope?
He's going to have no luck getting a signal from 15 miles away with a yagi wi-fi antenna, which, according to my understanding only have range in the hundred-yard range. Instead, find an old satellite dish and get ten mile or more range depending on the network you're aiming for. Find some cooperative folk and put up one at their network and you'll be getting good bandwidth until someone sneezes between the two antenna.
There are miniature black holes... they're called point singlarities. They have a shwartschild radius ( a few centimeters ) and have the enertial mass of a small planet, approx. 0.4g's. It may be just me, but if you could generate these and fire them at a decent percent of the speed of light you'd have one killer weapon.
